Reception, financially[edit]

Does anyone have any sources on how the movie has done financially so far? The reception section is woefully lacking. It would be interesting to know, considering the somewhat unorthodox means of funding. I realize that it hasn't premiered everywhere yet, but some preliminary results from the places it has would be interesting. - Alltat (talk) 13:35, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sky crew on Wikipedia & avoiding conflict of interest[edit]

Hello, I'm Jarmo, the community manager for Iron Sky (this can be verified by emailing the team, the address is on the website). We all use Wikipedia daily and have done so for years - actually we've done quite a bit of research fr the film here.

We know that the topic of corporations etc. editing Wikipedia is a difficult one, but we feel like we should offer our help in keeping the topics as correct as possible. However, because there is a major conflict of interest we will never edit them ourselves. Instead I would like your feedback if you'd think if the following would be acceptable:

I will not directly edit any articles concerning Iron Sky or the companies involved.
I will not attempt anything that could be considered censorship of any articles (ie. try to make us look better).

I will make clear my affliations.
I will make any corrections as suggestion on the talk page.
I will answer any questions other editors might have.
I will provide Creative Commons -licenced media (of Iron Sky and possibly film making in general) if it is required.

EDIT 04-April-2011:

Full disclosure: I'm a member of Iron Sky team. I edited the page today, correcting the information about our producers and production companies, the budget, and the shooting schedule. This was done because there was considerable confusion with media and private people using Wikipedia as a source for information about the film.

Far Side vs. Dark Side[edit]

Far side of the moon and dark side of the moon are (the vast majority of the time) two completely different things. The movie actually means far side, but they incorrectly use dark side. You can check out a note on the far side page. I made a note of this in the plot section, and I hope no one objects. ColdFusion650 (talk) 18:08, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, ColdFusion650. I think your addition within the brackets is fine, I'd just point out that their use of the term "dark side" is deliberate for artistic purposes. This was mentioned(in finnish) on their forums by the director Timo Vuorensola.
Also mentioned here. SkullHunter (talk) 09:17, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, as this film is intended to be SF comedy, one should expect to see a lot of oxymorons, tropes, and other misallusions typical of B-list SF that is poorly researched as to scientific accuracy, and this is intentional. So the 'dark side' is not incorrect.97.94.189.111 (talk) 15:44, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rocket Ship Galileo[edit]

Is this movie a parody of Rocket Ship Galileo by Heinlein? Professor Chaos (talk) 01:15, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, the film is inspired by the "real" conspiracy theories about Nazi super tech. --Iron Sky film (Jarmo) (talk) 10:31, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ban in Germany?[edit]

Hi,

when trying to access some trailers, eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn4DW1uvsAE&feature=related I get "this content is not available in your country". Is the movie banned in Germany due to "depiction of Nazi insignia"? Will the movie be released in Germany, or is it already banned (making even DVD orders in other countries illegal)?

I remember one of the first trailers with the "Reichsflugscheiben" was commented "nice animation, but that there are still Nazi sympathisers that produce something like this is alarming". :-( --141.70.81.136 (talk) 01:39, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, Iron Sky is not banned in Germany. Quite the contrary, it's a German co-production and we have confirmed distribution in Germany as well.
The reason the teasers are blocked is YouTube overreacting - they basically ban every video with a swastika from being viewed in Germany if there is a single complaint about it. And with a film that's not kind to a political ideology (even if it's national socialism), there are always people who complain. --Iron Sky film (Jarmo) (talk) 10:01, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

At the end of the film, the negro kisses the white girl. This had to be done in order to make it legal in Germany. Multiculturalism is official policy (think of Heidi Klum and Seal). So they had to include it into the film as a counter-balance to the many swastikas. 93.219.139.97 (talk) 07:35, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"This had to be done in order to make it legal in Germany. Multiculturalism is official policy (think of Heidi Klum and Seal)." What a load of bullshit!!!...Multiculturalism as "official policy"??..What do u think Germany is?...And what the heck do Heidi Klum and Seal have to do with German politics? Are u trying to imply that Heidi Klum was told by German "officials" to marry a black Englishman for the sake of "multiculturalism"?...Jesus Christ....What bollocks....--93.219.191.78 (talk) 13:17, 2 April 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.219.191.78 (talk) 13:11, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would ask you to refrain from saying racist terms. Thank you. 67.204.236.189 (talk) 19:29, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The term "negro" for the African-American character is a direct quote from the movie! They say it all the time. (I guess "Iron Sky" wanted to show the prevalent racism)93.219.148.51 (talk) 12:58, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Negro isn't a racist term although it is frowned upon by sensationalist proponents of Newspeak, who should probably file a formal complaint to the United Negro College Fund if the term hurts their poor little sensibilities so much.--Munin75 (talk) 12:30, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sigh. So they've given you internet access on the cell now, have they, Anders Behring Breivik? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.213.251.126 (talk) 15:07, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The term in question has been considered increasingly dated and offensive since the 1960s, see African Americans#Terms no longer in common use. If lots of people who are themselves black assure you that the term is offensive to them and ask you to refrain from its use, to ignore this request is deliberately racist. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 00:10, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sky game(s)[edit]

Hi, as those editing the page might have noticed, makers of an unauthorized knock-off game of Iron Sky have tried to include it an official game here on Wikipedia. That's not the case, we write more about it on our blog: http://blog.starwreck.com/2011/09/09/the-iron-sky-ipad-game-by-ziiso-is-an-unauthorized-chinese-knockoff/

The "scam game" is usually known as just "Iron Sky" or "Iron Sky: The Last Territory".

But there are also authorized game projects. A traditional board game is coming soon for example. There is also an authorized project to create an iPad game called "Operation Highjump", but it's still in very early stages.

We very much appreciate people keeping an eye out for our article and cleaning it up. We try not to touch the article itself ourselves to avoid conflict of interest. But we are here and answer questions on talk.

Questions about Iron Sky Team[edit]

There ought to be another article about Iron Sky Team. Who are they, and how did they come to work with each other? In what ways have they contributed to the film Iron Sky? 216.99.198.47 (talk) 08:30, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The background is mostly on the Star Wreck entry, which is linked-to from the lead. DiverScout (talk) 13:29, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

co production[edit]

In the article beginnging, it is stated, that the movie is a Finnish film. This is not correct: production was made by Finland, Germany and Australia. Even a German state (Bundesland) financed some of it. That's the reason the scnes set in New York were shot in Frankfurt. Saemikneu (talk) 15:14, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Saemikneu, I agree. Do you have a source for who was involved? I was in the cinema today and there were a lot of logos flashing by at the start of the movie. We should add all contributing partners here, including the information about crowd-sourcing. Plmr (talk) 00:57, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The planet Mars[edit]

I added this to the end of the plot section "At the very end of the credits, the planet Mars is revealed with a man-made satellite in orbit of indeterminate origin."

However, they'd pulled the curtains at the cinema I was at over this scene (it's right at the very end) so even though it was obviously Mars, I couldn't clearly see if there was any detail of the satellite, just that it was there. Just putting this out there if there's anything that needs clarifying because I couldn't see it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shan246 (talkcontribs) 13:55, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

thanks but do better[edit]

I'm cutting this recent addition. It is overlong, not in Wikipedia style, and probably improperly copied. (Come on, "XX,XXX euros"?!) Summarize it and try again. —Tamfang (talk) 04:02, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suspicious copyright edit[edit]

The edit 1178056527 from 09:48 on 1 October 2023, which added the section "Iron Sky Movie Registered at US Copyright Office," is a suspicious edit that forms part of an ongoing attempt by a claimant in a copyright lawsuit to gain ownership over the entire film. The individual lost the case and has now filed a copyright registration for the entire film. The US Copyright Office does not adjudicate the ownership of a work; in its own words, "a registration represents a claim to an interest in a work protected by copyright law, not a determination of the truth of the claims therein" (Source).

All ownership disputes must be settled in court, and Finnish court has already rendered a decision on this matter. The person making the edit cited a Reddit post from the individual who made the registration as evidence for the edit, which is not considered a reputable source. The IP address used matches the country of the claimant. Useofweapons1 (talk) 18:22, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
