Untitled[edit]

I edited your addition to my article on Irish Church Missions as it is ill-researched and unfounded. When was ICM previously 'famous' for a 'sectarian' plaque? Where is the evidence? Which plaque? What does it say that is 'sectarian'? ICM started out as a mission to Irish Roman Catholics for religious, not sectarian motives. Your edit is more a value judgement than a valuable contribution of knowledge.

Your reference about his role in Bethany house being raised for questioning infers far more than the original Irish Times article. The Irish times article referred to his role along with the Archbishop of Dublin and the Church of Ireland in helping getting the home started. Your wording is not neutral but an attempt to besmirch the reputation of T. C. Hammond, inferring some role in alleged abuse which the Irish Times article does not accuse Hammond of. Therefore, your constant insistence in putting in this innuendo is quite misleading. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.16.186.48 (talk) 19:08, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This sort of thing is 100% irrational - " ICM was particularly controversial during the period of the Irish Famine (1845–1852) believing the famine to be a judgment from God on Irish Catholics who had clung to the Catholic faith - "The truth of the Scriptures was verified in the groans of the dying, and their wails for the dead". It was controversial to Catholics because the intention was to convert a population that was mostly Catholic. But that's as "controversial" as converting a communist (to other communists), or persuading people to shop at Dunnes Stores if you are the manager of other shops. The ICM had minimal impact, and the Famine was over its worst in 1849. John McHale (archbishop) also said that the famine was God's judgement—the man who stood to lose the most if the ICM had succeeded.86.42.205.65 (talk) 07:34, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
