"Crime and Punishment" by Dostoevsky

This obviously can't go straight into the article right now, since it's original research, but isn't Crime and Punishment an inverted detective story of sorts? It even has a detective and a concealed murder. Surely some essay (which can be cited as a source) has talked about this?

An IP editor slotted mention of Crime and Punishment into the article last December, and edited the article such that Freeman was no longer credited with originating the format- unsourced; I have now reverted these edits. Crime and Punishment is sometimes discussed in relation to the development of detective fiction (which was still in embryo in 1866), but the critical literature doesn't generally treat it as a "detective story" (narrowly defined) at all, let alone an inverted detective story. Being told from the perspective of the criminal, with the detective a relatively minor character and detection a minor feature of the action, the novel is certainly "crime fiction," but not really "detective fiction;" and there are any number of other narratives predating C&P which retell the misdeeds and capture of a criminal (eg the many narratives based on the life of Dick Turpin). Rope, 1929 play and 1948 Hitchcock Movie

In terms of the Hitchcock filmography, the 1948 movie Rope (based on a 1929 play by Patrick Hamilton) follows two murderers who kill a friend and their former teacher deduces the crime during the course of a dinner party - it would qualify as an inverted detective story. One of the murderers in the film even references Crime and Punishment.
