"Ikimono-gakari" or "Ikimonogakari"[edit]

According to the CDs, they are using spelling "Ikimono-gakari" for English. So I changed the page name. --Yaizawa 12:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible to change it back again？ Everybody associated with them, uses "Ikimonogakari". For example、 band member Hotaka Yamashita, in the video introduction to the video of the recent 'I' concert DVD has written it "ikimonogakari". See also, their fan club's header. Rock?[edit]

Is this the same band singing "Sakura" and "Hana Wa Sakura Kimi Wa Utsukushii", if so the label "Rock" is misleading - "Pop" would be appropriate 203.214.90.33 (talk) 00:51, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say Pop-rock is more fitting, they're a little "heavier" than just pop.

Meaning?[edit]

Do they have a meaning for Ikimono-gakari? "生き物係" "Ikimonogakari/Ikimono Kakari" could be "The Connection between Living Things"... Moocowsrule (talk) 03:49, 27 October 2008 (UTC)moocowrule[reply]

Possibly, it could also mean "Those who went to rent".
Ikimono-Gakari is a term given to those whose responsibility it is to look after plants and animals in Japanese grade school. Literally, the closest I can translate is "biological-being minder." ANN Encyclopedia as a source[edit]

This is a response to an editor that undid my edit removing ANN Encylopedia's as a source. ANN Encyclopedia is built on user-submitted material and while the submissions are checked by a staff member, there are often a lot of errors. This would make it a tertiary source, which is a good way to find sources, but in and of it self cannot be used as a source. While ANN has been widely cited, Wikiproject Anime and Manga has always stated that the magazine side of ANN is a reliable source, but the encyclopedia is not; this consensus was upheld in a discussion last month and the project is now undertaking a large-scale resourcing effort.

Your suggestion that I watch Episode 103 doesn't make any sense because I made the edit on April 8th, roughly 48 hours before the episode aired. Now that the episode is out, one can simply source it to the episode because they list it in the credits; but you can't use ANN as a source. --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 04:53, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Takashi Adachi[edit]

He is the bass guitarist who accompanies them in some of their live performances. He performed in their"Ikimono Matsuri 2011 Donata Summer Mo Tanoshimima Show" over two days at Yokohama Stadium. There is only one problem with his inclusion like this. He is only one of many who perform with them in their live concerts (and in the studio); they are accompanied by strings, brass, guitars (including bass), percussion and so on. These are not necessarily the same from concert to concert. It is a bit like having a performance of a piano concerto where the publicity includes only the name of the pianist, and one of the flautists/flutists/flute players in the orchestra. Recent move to Ikimonogakari[edit]

We had a go-round with this before, and Ryulong moved it back. (see archive discussion from MOS:JAPAN about the earlier move) This time, I was bold and moved it back myself. Relevant points:

  • Official usage trumps common usage, per MOS:JAPAN.
  • The official site, as far as I can tell, is using "ikimono-gakari".
    • For an example, see the band profile. Notice how the title displayed in the browser is "ikimono-gakari".
  • Anthony Bradbury's edit summary indicated the official site was using no dash, so I attempted (using a google search for "+ikimonogakari" among other things) to find a place on the site where "ikimonogakari" without the dash is used. Except for e-mail addresses and URLs, I could not find anything, and what I did find was lots of "ikimono-gakari" with the dash. If anyone knows of a place where the dashless spelling is used, I would appreciate a URL. Thanks :)
  • A booklet was mentioned as using no dash. There are previous posts indicating that booklets were using the dash. Either way, anyone have a URL for them?

Personally I call them Ikimono Gakari, but I place no importance on what I call them. However, I looked around their site for usage of either out of curiosity and only found one cover using either (it's pretty hard to see). I'll just leave it here for anyone else interested.   • On the cover for the Newtral DVD and BluRay we find "Ikimonogakari no Minasan" and "IKIMONOGAKARI" There is no hyphen.

I would argue that currently the official spelling seems to be "Ikimonogakari" (no hyphen). The last two albums (NEWTRAL and I) have used this spelling somewhere on the box (though only NEWTRAL on the front cover http://ikimonogakari.com/discography/album/escl-3827/ [sorry, difficult to see]) and the limited edition (Pokemon) version of the "Egao" single also uses "Ikimonogakari" (http://ikimonogakari.com/discography/single/escl-4076/ [extremely difficult to see]). I am sorry if I am bringing up a closed discussion, and I apologise for going against the Wikipedia convention of Ikimono-gakari, but I do feel that recently there has been a shift towards "Ikimonogakari". Above, it says 'Official usage trumps common usage ... " Ikimonogakari are signed to Epic/Sony. On the English portion of the website, the name is 'Ikimonogakari' with no hyphen. See here. Common usage has Ikimono Gakari and Ikimono-Gakari, with and without upper case; but, I would have to suggest that the conclusion that the inclusion of the space or the hyphen is technically wrong, because, as is said above, offical trumps all. Yes - I'm in support of a split of the discography section. Rise to Fame[edit]

The Rise to Fame section needs to be split. It should really only include the period up to when it is clear that they had an established position, in Japanese music certainly by 2009 or 2010 when they were able to fill large auditoriums and stadiums on a regular basis.
