Station opened in 1993[edit]

The article currently says that the station opened in 1993. Whilst it might have reopened then, I'm pretty sure there was a station previously on the site, but I havn't yet found a citable source for this. Marking as cite needed. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 12:01, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Chris j wood: There have been four earlier stations named Hucknall (or similar), two of which were not on this line, and one was on the same line but some distance to the north. The station opened by the Midland Railway on 22 December 1895, renamed from Hucknall to Hucknall Byron 11 August 1952, and closed by BR on 12 October 1964 may have been on the same site as the present station, but Butt (1995), p. 124 gives it a separate entry, which usually indicates a different site. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:45, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Redrose64: - On the other hand, if you go to Hucknall on Rail Map online, switch on stations and station labels, and select the OS 6" map background, you can see that the OS map shows a station exactly where the current station is. What I cannot find is a date for that OS map; it is clearly old as it still has the MR, GNR and GCR lines shown, and the line to Calverton Colliery hasn't yet been built. That station that is apparently exactly where the current station is is the Midland Railway station of 1895-1964. I'm not sure what Butt's criteria are for a resited station. We could ask Lamberhurst (talk · contribs) who has Cobb's atlas. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:12, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Quick says the station that opened in 1993 is on the site of Hucknall Byron that opened on that location in 1895, closed in 1964. Just to complicate things Byron originally opened in 1848 about 4 chains from the later site. Nthep (talk) 21:24, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
