Copyright violation[edit]

I've reverted an edit in which 13 paragraphs taken verbatim from the CASDE website re. Hubbard were inserted. There is a copyright-2005 notice at the bottom of the CASDE page. Accordingly, I've removed the material, per WP:COPYVIO.

The material also wasn't written in a good encyclopedic tone: it included boosterish phrases such as "We are proud of..." and "a firm foundation for a bright future".

There was a great deal of valuable content in the inserted text, but it needs to be rewritten to avoid copyright violation and to use good encyclopedic style. There should also be a citation.

I've just reverted an addition of the same material again. This time, the editor who inserted it attempted to put a citation at the end. This is not sufficient to avoid copyright violation: the material needs to be rewritten completely. Again, it needs to be written in the tone of an encyclopedia, without references to "our town" or "a bright future". Ammodramus (talk) 16:50, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just reverted the same addition a third time. This time, the IP editor who inserted it added the author's name at the end. Unfortunately, they're not registered editors, so I can't address them at their talk page.
There is no possible way to insert a block of 13 paragraphs from a copyrighted source without copyright violation. Moreover, some of the material isn't really suited for a WP article; some of it needs clarification or omission (Hubbard's "unique method of naming its town board" isn't described in enough detail to make the account useful to a reader); and some of it is not written in good encyclopedic style ("We are proud of...")
Please, fellow editor, do not re-insert this big block of copyrighted and non-encyclopedic text. Write the history of Hubbard in your own words, using this and other sources (the Nebraska State Historical Society website is a good place to look; if you're based in or near Hubbard, there's probably a centennial history or the like in the library). There is some interesting history in Hubbard; write it in an interesting and encyclopedic way.
