STD?[edit]

I've removed the template. Arguably, D can be acquired sexually, but my understanding of the literature is that it's primarily blood borne, with highest rates in users of IV drugs and people who have had multiple blood transfusions (at least in North America). -- Samir धर्म 03:24, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Popular culture[edit]

Is the section on popular culture really necessary? It seems totally irrelevant in an encyclopedic article. --CharlesC (talk) 13:58, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It could be necessary, I'm assuming that a high amount of the visits due to this article will be from popular culture, particularly the television series, True Blood. As a large number of people are visual learners, seeing references to other television shows that portray Hepatitis D could assist them in their search to learn about the illness. I understand CharlesC's reasoning, but I feel that this can be addressed by talking about how accurate the portrayal of the illness is in each show. As a patient of a chronic illness I fully understand how it can feel to have your illness portrayed incorrectly, but if it is able to spark a person's interest to learn about the condition it's certainly doing some good which should be encouraged. Naturally, this will require assistance from users who are well versed in the condition (for example, a doctor or patient of the condition), as well as users who are well versed in the television show that portray the condition. The section may be a little 'messy' at first, but I feel with the required effort, it could definitely be used to help educate others (please forgive me if I've used incorrect terminology or disobeyed any guidelines, I've only commented on and edited a few articles, so I'm still learning) Berrie (talk) 06:43, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
