I'm aware of the orthographic spelling, but the link to Mr. Kessler will not function properly with his name spelled in orthographic form despite it being added to said page. The change only gives users more access to information on a top GDR leader.

Status as a general[edit]

He is not legally considered a "general" in Germany, nor is he entitled to use that title, so I removed Category:German generals. (the same applies to all former NVA officers, because NVA was never part of the German military and NVA officer ranks are not recognized in present-day Germany). 85.164.198.136 (talk) 09:13, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, during GDR existance, Heinz Kessler had highest rank in army. He was General of Army and thus, he was commanding entire land troops. Besides, NVA was true german army, saving traditions of prussian wehrmacht, while Bundeswehr is still copying USA capitalist army.RethraTemple (talk) 01:26, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Updates[edit]

This article contains some more recent quotes from him, outlining his views more recently. It is worth noting that the headline attributes to him a view that he specifically denies further down, so we'll want to be careful about that. (The headline says he "has no regrets over the deaths to those who tried to cross the Berlin Wall". But in the text, he is quoted as saying "I deplore the fact that East Germans were shot while trying to flee westward..."--Jimbo Wales (talk) 06:35, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
