I'm pretty sure that the reason for Heelas changing to John Lewis was not to be more competitive with Debenhams and House of Fraser, seeing as Debenhams already existed in Reading before The Oracle was built (they used to be where the Broad St. entrance is now).

As far as I am aware, and this is just a guess, John Lewis decided to re-brand all of it's stores as part of an anniversary celebration. I have seen people walking around Oxford Street, London with Heelas bags; the assumption for that is that all the bags were probably sent back to the main store, in or around Oxford Street, London, and given out to customers as a sort of momento.

I'm changing the wording so that it doesn't give the impression that competition within the Reading area alone caused Heelas to change it's name.

Royal Warrant[edit]

In response to my latest edit being reverted I would like to point out the following:- The web link 'John Lewis Partnership Reading Awarded Royal Warrant for HM The Queen' now links to a page which is no longer available and should be removed. John Lewis Reading is not the first department store outside London to be awarded a royal warrant. Caleys, for instance, held the same warrant before it closed in 2006. Examples of department stores currently trading outside London, awarded royal warrants before John Lewis Reading, include W J Daniel & Co in Windsor and Jenners in Edinburgh. Hmm. Well, that reference definitely stated that JL was the first, but perhaps that's the very reason that the reference is now dead. Regardless, it should be removed, and I'll revert back to your version. Appologies for the confusion. _TheIslander 16:36, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article name/subject[edit]

Clearly a branch of John Lewis's is not going to be independently notable of John Lewis partnership. The main reason for the article seems to be its long history as a department store called "Heelas", so that is what the subject of the article should be. I've moved the article to "Heelas, Reading". An article about John Lewis, Reading, would be ripe for deletion. Sionk (talk) 20:38, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
