Note re his birth date[edit]

I've just fixed it to 7 February 1917, from 17 Feb, which was there for god knows how long. There are stacks of evil mirrors out there saying 17 Feb now. Not a single one of the 5 external refs on his biography were working, so I've taken them all out and found 2 reputable sources for 7 Feb (Michael Kirby; Robert Menzies Trust).

Also, he had to retire on or before his 70th birthday, and he retired on 5 Feb 1987. That in itself doesn't prove he wasn't born on 17 Feb, because he could have chosen to retire 12 days early, but it is consistent with a 7 Feb birth and a retirement 2 days early. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 23:11, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
