Requested move 21 August 2022[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. There are several suggestions but (despite nearly a month of discussion) no consensus favoring any single one, and I'm not comfortable closing on a WP:NOGOODOPTIONS/WP:BARTENDER basis since there are legitimate arguments for the status quo. No prejudice against speedy renomination if some additional evidence (e.g. how frequently sources use each of the three possibilities) are in the sources) can be provided. Hall of Justice (San Francisco)Thomas J. Cahill Hall of Justice – Per WP:NATURALDIS. BD2412 T 23:37, 21 August 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 05:09, 29 August 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 18:39, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Not the WP:COMMONNAME. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:55, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • The common name is generic and requires disambiguation. BD2412 T 02:54, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - per OP. Clearly the common name if you look at local news sources mentioning this place, and is a great improvement over the parenthetical disambiguation. -- Netoholic @ 15:50, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Most of the article is not about the current Hall of Justice building; rather it covers the first and second Hall of Justice buildings which presumably were not called "Thomas J. Cahill Hall of Justice". Only the lead section and infobox are about the current building (and part of the history section). The lead section does not adequately summarize the contents of the article. "Hall of Justice" is only the common name of the building in greater San Francisco. It is not the common name of the building in New York, London, Paris or anywhere else on a worldwide basis. Outside of San Francisco surely the common name would be San Francisco Hall of Justice; indeed the string "San Francisco Hall of Justice" is found four times on the page. – wbm1058 (talk) 16:19, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
