Profile needs to be updated[edit]

For any persons living biography, there should be a proper introduction, early life, career, personal life.

However, here in this profile, we can see a career paragraph of one line with an incorrect citation. "He is the Chairman of Premier Bank Limited" has been cited with this link to the daily star news proves that the previous editor was biased and has a sole intention to deframe the individual. Within this paragraph, you can also see that this line "he is the vice-president of Dhaka city Awami league" has been wrongly quoted with this citation, "Rising high the audacity" doesn't make any sense.

We can also see that instead of early life or personal life, the editor quickly jumps to controversy' which btw is the biggest part of the bio of this individual. This individual was wrongly charged, as he was a target of a political game. He was acquited from the high court. Here is the news, "High Court acquits HBM Iqbal’s family of charges" by the Daily Sun.

The previous editor also mentioned an irrelevant topic in the individuals' controversy. "His 16 year old nephew crashed his car in Gulshan, Dhaka in 2016. He was under the influence of alcohol, four people were injured in the accident. The boy was not charged but taken to safety by Bangladesh police.", doesn't have any connection to his bio and neither was he of any influence in this incident.

"In 2007 he was charged with corruption by the Bangladesh Anti Corruption Commission." from the controversy portion of the individual has been proved wrong by High court.

On 20th May 2018 the High Court Division in Criminal Appeal No. 2602/2017 observed that the family members of Dr. HBM Iqbal were the dependents of him and consequently the allegation under section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2004 is not applicable against them. by the Daily Sun.

From the information provided above, I strongly believe the existing bio is inaccurate and misleading along with outdated news sources. Since this is a community for everyone, I believe we should not give any room for biased biography.

This profile needs a proper Early life Career And other sections.

Feel free to agree/disagree with me World bd7000 (talk) 11:23, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello World bd7000. There may well be issues with the article, but replacing the existing article with "Dr. H.B.M Iqbal is a Multi-Dimensional Corporate personality" is NOT the way to proceed if you want other editors to collaborate with you to build a better article. Do you have connection to User:Papyrus cyrus please? Edwardx (talk) 12:33, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Papyrus cyrus: The discussion process is most effective if participants use a single account, use the article's talk page, stay focused, and raise a single proposed change at a time. I will attempt to cut through the aspersions, digressions, and repetition above to address each salient point:

  • You write, This line "he is the vice-president of Dhaka city Awami league" has been wrongly quoted with this citation, "[1]" The cited source clearly says "HBM Iqbal, vice-president of Dhaka city unit of ruling Awami League". It was written in 2010, and is outdated because Dhaka has since been split into north and south units, but the solution to outdated information is rewording without relative time references, not removal. Therefore I have changed the text to "As of 2010, he was a vice-president of the Awami League's Dhaka city unit."
  • You write, He was acquited from the high court. Here is the news, [2]. He has been charge several times with different things. You were not clear, but I assume you are referring to the sentence "In 2007, he was charged with corruption by the Bangladesh Anti Corruption Commission". As a former Member of Parliament, he is a public figure, so allegations, charges, or convictions of corruption reported in multiple reliable newspapers must be included in the article to maintain neutrality, whatever their motivation, and whether they were proven or not. However, if he has denied the charges, that should be included too, and any reliable reporting on the outcome of the matter should be included. Can you supply a non-dead link to a reliable source?
  • With regard to the news about his 16-year old nephew, I agree that it is off-topic, and have removed it from the article.

Re: Edit Request[edit]

Worldbruce thanks for the suggestions. I have further edit request to this article.

Point 1: "HBM Iqbal is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the former Member of Parliament from Ramna-Tejgaon, Dhaka.[1] "

I think, the citation used here is not appropriate and misleading.

"Four injured in reckless driving by ex-Awami League MP HBM Iqbal's underage nephew at Gulshan". bdnews24.com. Retrieved 8 December 2016.

because the headline here is an off topic to HBM Iqbal I would rather suggest this link source:

[1]

Point 2: "He faced criticism for firing his gun at a 2001 rally of then opposition party, Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He was charged but the case was dropped in 2009."

There is no new source for supporting this cause, therefore requesting to remove this line. Papyrus cyrus (talk) 16:44, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reply 25-MAR-2019[edit]

  No actionable request

  1. Point 1: It is unclear what it being suggested here. The COI editor mentions a removed claim, saying "It is not appropriate and misleading" but mentions a source whose connection to the claim is not known. It is also unknown if the claim is to be re-inserted with the suggested source, or where the suggested source is to be placed.
  2. Point 2: The request asks to have sourced information removed, saying "there is no new source for supporting this cause". There is however an old source which still supports the article's claim.

Disruptive edits by Johnnwk[edit]

Single-purpose account Johnnwk has repeatedly edited this article in an attempt to maintain their preferred version of the page, despite having been reverted and warned multiple times by multiple editors.

Sections[edit]

Biographies that are stubs, such as this one, are not generally divided into sections. Very short sections distract the reader by cluttering an article with headings and inhibiting the flow of the prose. Short paragraphs generally do not warrant their own heading. There is no sound reason, for example, to split the two-sentence "Political career" from the two-sentence "Business career". In Iqbal's case all the reliably sourced material suitable for an encyclopedia can be explained easily in a single section, "Biography".

Academic titles[edit]

Wikipedia's Manual of Style instructs editors not to use academic titles such as "Dr." before a subject's name.

This may seem strange if you come from a culture where such titles are normally used. Fifty years ago in West Germany, for instance, one would never have referred to a male professor except by the almost militaristic "Herr Doktor Professor". The use of such titles is less common in Commonwealth countries (the Dictionary of National Biography, for example, avoids them), and is even more rare in the United States, where it would sound like sycophancy.

In any case, the English-language Wikipedia has adopted a standard of not using them. You can see the style in action at such articles as List of Nobel laureates by country and featured articles about universities, such as Dartmouth College and Georgetown University. Don't indulge people's self-importance, don't use "Dr."

Reliable sources[edit]

Self-published website goldenbusinessbd.com has none of the characteristics of a reliable source, and may never be used as source of information about a living person. Even if it were usable, it does not support any of the statements about Iqbal's educational background. Even if it were usable, and supported the material, the distance learning "degrees" from educationally unaccredited, non-notable institutions,[3][4] would not be encyclopedia-worthy content, unless Iqbal is notable for padding his resume.

Awards[edit]

Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Merely being true, or even verifiable, does not automatically make something suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. Notable awards such as a Nobel Prize, Independence Day Award, or Ekushey Padak should be mentioned in an awardee's biography. Many non-notable awards, however, especially industry awards, are designed to promote something and are not a mark of recognition. They exist only as an excuse for a booze-up on expenses and have zero encyclopedic value. When an award is covered only by churnalism, that's strong evidence that it is inappropriate content for Wikipedia.

Controversies[edit]

A section dedicated to controversies and criticisms is an indication of a poorly written article. Such sections are sometimes added by editors unfamiliar with the neutral point of view policy. Sometimes their intent is to attack the subject by emphasizing the material, and sometimes to whitewash the subject by pushing unfavourable material "below the fold". Criticisms/controversies/praises should be worked into the existing prose of the article, as described in the essay "Criticism".

Johnnwk's edits have been reverted yet again for the above reasons. --Worldbruce (talk) 23:16, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
