English Titles[edit]

The English translations of the titles are not official. For official reference, use the Mandarin pinyin. Jute 08:21, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I know. I had no idea where to get the Mandarin pinyin from, though. The Literate Engineer 11:06, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is it a wikipedia official guideline to not translate titles unless they are "official?" What makes it official? Actually, many of the titles have been made into movies and televisions shows with titles translated into English. Wouldn't that constitute official? Furthermore, there are officially published English translations of some works. Transliterating the titles into pinyin essentially makes it impossible for the entire English speaking world to understand their meaning. Jin Yong's page has all English translations, even though only one has been officially published in English. Laobaisjz (talk) 03:59, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

When time permits in the near future I will begin to change pinyin to english. The pinyin in this article is a huge travesty and an insult to the english speaking world. Laobaisjz (talk) 15:38, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pinyin was not used at all in Taiwan that time. What are you guys thinking? --Elnino199127 (talk) 20:32, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion[edit]

His style is in contrast to that of Jin Yong (look him up on Wikipedea). Jin is old school, while Gu Long is more new school.

Removed this from the main article. Seems to be a mere opinion and isn't significant to the whole thrust of the article. Jute 01:56, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Text largely copied from another website[edit]

The text for the sections "Life" and "Style of Writing" (added on 13 Jun 2006) appears to have been largely copied from Wuxiapedia.com, which published its Gu Long Treasury on 21 February 2006. More specifically, the article from which the text was copied, The Life of Gu Long, was first published on Wuxiapedia.com on 11 February 2006. 218.208.250.2 10:14, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of titles[edit]

Since this is the English wikipedia, I'm going to anglicise the list of titles, unless a reasonable reason why I shouldn't is made.KTo288 22:38, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cause of death[edit]

Gu Long is infamously known to be alcoholic. However, his death from liver disease probably is not caused by alchohol consumption but from infected blood. AFAIK, from the brief biography attached in his novels, in one incident, he suffered a deep cut after attack from triad member. Lost a lot blood and has to receive blood transfusion. It's from there he got the infected blood. This is written by publisher which I think is more reliable source.
His article in Chinese wiki (https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8F%A4%E9%BE%99) also mentions about that incident, but did not cite any source though. I kinda prefer that article because it doesn't specifically state the exact cause of death. I think we can agree he died from liver disease, but he got that disease is disputable. So instead of "He died...due to...alcoholism, namely cirrhosis and esophageal hemorrhage", it's better to state "He died from cirrhosis and esophageal hemorrhage".
I don't have his novels right now so I can't write precise details of the incident. Anyone who has it right now, please do. Wasill37 (talk) 01:10, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
