Years[edit]

Why do the years on this page (and the other grammy pages) differ by one from the years listed on www.grammy.com ? I think these pages should be consistent with the "official" grammy.com site.

For example, Amy Winehouse won the 2007 (50th Annual GRAMMY Awards) on grammy.com, but won the 2008 grammy award here? The actual ceremony took place February 10, 2008, but the award is for accomplishments from the October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007. I think the ceremony date is not meaningful because it could change; if it is done earlier one year, it may result in two award ceremonies in the same year! --MarcM1098 (talk) 04:41, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This dates back at least as far as December 2003. I believe the reason was to match up with the names of the award pages. The awards presented as the Grammy Awards of 1959 are cross-listed as the 1959 awards, for example. Now, at some point, a vote was conducted regarding the 2007 Grammy Awards, where the decision was made to rename the page as the 49th Grammy Awards instead. Since then, the pages back to the 41st Annual (1999) have been renamed. If all the yearly Grammy pages were renamed, it might then be reasonable to match up the years with the official Grammy source. But renaming the pages and bypassing redirects is a not insubstantial amount of work. On the other hand, listing any single year is somewhat inaccurate given the eligibility period the Academy now uses. Maybe it would be possible to include both the year as Grammy.com lists it and also the count, something like 1958 (1st)?--Zhinz (talk) 02:00, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Asterisks[edit]

What do the asterisks after many of the songs signify? There is nothing in the article referencing them... Btornado (talk) 00:29, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Person or song[edit]

Is Grammy Award for Record of the Year given to the songwriter or is it just credited for the song? If it is given to the songwriter this page is quite deficient and could use an overhaul. Alternatively, it might be credited to the performer, but I don't think so. Please clarify.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:58, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Academy, it is awarded "to the artist(s), producer(s), recording engineer(s) and/or mixer(s) if other than the artist." But yes, it could use an overhaul, consistent with WP:GRAMMY. Adabow (talk · contribs) 04:22, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Comment below moved from Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Songs
Song of the Year is the simple one: it is about the song, and so the award goes to the songwriter(s) [who often, though not always, happen to be the performer and/or producer as well].
Record of the Year is more complex: it is about the recording, not the song, thereby being awarded to the artist and producer [who sometimes, though not always, happen to be also the songwriter], and as of late the engineer and/or mixer as well. Abrazame (talk) 04:25, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If someone can point me to a source of who the winners were, I will overhaul the page after I do the same at Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 05:52, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A complete list of winners (all awards) is here, not sure how to refine to ROTY. A less reliable source is Rock on the Net, but may be easier to navigate and know what you are searching for in other sources (newspapers are good for nominees). Do you have Adobe Reader? You will need it to view PDFs. If it's still not working, try [1]. Adabow (talk · contribs) 03:46, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming suggestion[edit]

I know this isn't the place to make such a suggestion to the powers that be, but couldn't they clear up most of confusion between the album, record, and song awards by renaming this one "Track of the Year"? 86.31.123.65 (talk) 22:39, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
