Untitled[edit]

This article lauds Hebard as: "distinguished social scientist," "highly respected editor," and "leading suffragist." These claims appear to me as a stretch. On the first two accounts, social science and editing, Hebard had no shortage of critics, primarily because of her tendency to romanticize history and her lack of academic discipline, and for that matter, training. Leading suffragist? My readings show that national suffragists trotted out Hebard as as an example of a citizen from a "progressive" state that saw fit to grant women the vote. Subsequently, Hebard was at times very visible doing the bidding of national suffragists and, as such, was a follower not a leader. Fishdecoy (talk)

Any thoughts about the article's use of "feminist" to describe Hebard? This contemporary term strikes me as out place, given the historica context. Morever, if we set aside Hebard's involvement in suffragism, I don't find evidence of her advocating for women. Hebard led by example, unbridled by society's expectations for women.
