Silliness[edit]

I got rid of the complete garbage that was written on this page which was to the effect of Goshen being the light that wakes everyone up. (Trust me it was like a 5 year old wrote about the town.) Anyways I added some info I could find on the town and added a link to the town's homepage. This, has some content that would help source the first paragraph of this article. But unfortunately WP:QS gives the impression that this isn't a reliable source. And I removed the external link to it per WP:ELNO. Jsayre64 (talk) 03:44, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I discovered there is a series of these. No idea who they are or where they got their info. It is unfortunate, because some of that info is useful, well, the stagecoach stop part is. This is one of the first articles I edited and I'm better at finding references now, so I'll see if I can come up with anything. Note that quite a few of the Lane County Historical Society's journals are scanned and show up in Google searches. And many years of past Register-Guards are available in Google News archives. Here's a long LCHS article. Says this Hampton fellow named the place, not Bristow. Also that Hampton, Oregon is named for the same family. Seems plausible. Valfontis (talk) 06:23, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The problem arises when you have to decide which source to trust. Or might it be better to state, "An author for the Lane County Historian wrote that Goshen was named by John Jacob Hampton, although Oregon: End of the Trail says that it was named by Elijah Bristow." ? I saw another source that said Bristow. Meanwhile I believe the LCH piece is a family reminiscence, which could mean it's either a lot more accurate or a lot less! Your solution seems like a good one. Valfontis (talk) 15:52, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
