Founders[edit]

The original founders were Gilbert and Daniel Ayoub, hence the name "Gildan". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.107.15.122 (talk) 15:27, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Highlights on the right side[edit]

Hi,

I was going through Gildan's page and I noticed that the figures/financials on the right side have not been updated since 2012, and the company is now more than half-way through its 2015 fiscal year. I think it would be best to have these figures updated to its 2014 results. The company changed its fiscal year-end in 2014, and as such, we have posted our recast historical financials on the company website here: [1]

If we look at the first three metrics that are currently on the wikipedia page and updated them to reflect the company's new 2014 year-end, we would get the following: Revenue: $2.23 billion (up from $2.21 billion) Operating Income: $284.7 million (down from $349.2 million) Net Income: $276.6 million (down from $326.6 million) [2]

Moreover, with the fiscal year ending on January 4, 2015, the company's assets and equity, according to page 26 of the company's quarterly statements (balance sheet) were as follows: Total Assets: $2.65 billion Total Equity: $1.88 billion [3]

Furthermore, in the company's most recent press releases, we have announced that Gildan now employs over 42,000 people (not 33,000 as seen on the page). Source: Gildan's most recent press release [4]

If there are any problems with any of the sources used, please let me know. Hope to hear from someone from the wikipedia community soon.

Follow up to initial post[edit]

Hello,

My name is Daniel Shakibaian, I am an analyst with Gildan Activewear Inc. I am addressing the Wikipedia community to hopefully have outdated financial information updated on the Gildan Activewear Page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gildan_Activewear. The table on the right cites data from our 2012 financial results. Our 2015 financial results are as follows:

Revenue: $2.57 billion[5]

Operating income: $367.5 million[6]

Net income: $346.1 million[7]

Total assets: $2.83 billion [8]

Total equity: $2.19 billion [9]

Number of employees: 42,000 [10]

Subsidiaries: (Gildan does not have any subsidiaries, we have brands) These brands include Gildan®, GoldToe®, Anvil®, Comfort colors®, Secret®, Silks®, Powersox®, Kushyfoot® and Therapy Plus®, and our licensed brands are Mossy Oak® and Under Armour®. [11]

If there are any problems with any of the sources used, please let me know. I look forward to hearing from the Wikipedia community soon.

Updated the financial stats. Apologies for the delay. You see, talk pages of lightly-edited articles are not actively monitored unless you place an edit request or a request for help, which then summons Wikipedia editors. I noticed that Gildan Activewear changed its reporting period in 2015, and consequently the FY 2015 financial results cite data for 15 months instead of 12. In the future, please disclose these shifts in reporting practices when requesting an update. Thanks, Altamel (talk) 18:04, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To add to article[edit]

Basic information to add to the article (why wasn't this here already?): where does the name "Gildan" come from? 173.88.241.33 (talk) 01:12, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Largest T-shirt manufacturer?[edit]

Is Gildan the world's largest T-shirt manufacturer? 173.88.241.33 (talk) 01:14, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removed bad sources[edit]

It's 2018. I removed several claims that had been tagged CN and sourced that had failed verification, and were tagged in 2013. Five years is plenty of time to have challenged material online for someone to fix.96.127.244.201 (talk) 22:08, 4 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Corporate citizenship?[edit]

Is it worth having an entire section of corporate citizenship? Wouldn't it make more sense to bring "Allegations of labour violations" and "Corporate citizenship" under specific headings like "Human rights record", "Environmental record", etc. The current headings are basically just "Good", "Bad". This seems harder to navigate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Curfibex (talkcontribs) 07:40, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This entire section is all PR linked to their website and I've accordingly removed it. Wikieditor19920 (talk) 05:20, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why is the "Allegations" portion involving an unrelated company there?[edit]

The bottom part of the article references allegations related to Genesis, S.A., which is noted as a Gildan competitor. Why is that on the Gildan page? Particularly since the heading suggests Gildan is the one being accused. 24.240.128.16 (talk) 19:48, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
