Anti-Zionst[edit]

The page presently cites under Biography his 2009 support of the Palestinian organization Hamas in Gaza. Media reports on 23 July 2014 go further to quote his overt anti-Israel position during the present armed conflict between Hamas and the IDF. This requires proper citation for inclusion on this page, perhaps under a Level 2 or 3 heading e.g. Political views. -- Deborahjay (talk) 06:33, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article is libelous, in that it claims that "Vattimo stated that he has “re-evaluated” The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and now felt they largely reflect the truth about the Jews." The article cited is ynet, but there is no original source. A search of Italian sources leads me to a Corriere article from 2008. Where he states:

"Oggi... è diventato scandaloso manifestare la propria solidarietà ai palestinesi. Persino Napolitano ha equiparato antisionismo e antisemitismo. Allora mi dico: non ho mai creduto alla menzogna dei Protocolli degli anziani di Sion. Ora comincio a ricredermi, visto il serviismo dei media". [which translates as "Today, I will be outrageous to show my solidarity with the Palestinians. Even Napolitano equated anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism. Then I say to myself: I have never believed the lie of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Now I begin to change my mind, given the servitude of the media." The quote is immediately followed by this statement from the Corriere reporter: "Parole testuali, forse pronunciate con un filo di ironia." [Which translates as Exact words, maybe uttered with a hint of irony]

It's pretty clear to me that the context of his words and the commentary from the reporter shows that he was being ironic. --68.227.225.42 (talk) 00:10, 31 July 2014 (UTC)§68.227.225.42 (talk) 00:10, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
