Gerd Ruge

5x expanded by Ktin (talk), Grimes2 (talk), and Gerda Arendt (talk). Nominated by Ktin (talk) at 16:39, 17 October 2021 (UTC).[reply]

  • Comment (not review): I suggest a grammar tweak ALT0a:... that German reporter Gerd Ruge (pictured) formed a lasting friendship with author Boris Pasternak and named his son Boris after him?
  • Comment. I like ALT0a. I have also added ALT1 which might also be worthy of consideration for WP:DYK. Ktin (talk) 21:57, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Article expansion is new enough and within policy. However, it is not long enough. Original character count 1,957 characters before expansion and is currently 8,279 characters. A five time expansion would be 9,785 characters making the expansion 1,506 characters short of a five time expansion. If editors want to have the hook promoted, they need to add some more content to the article to meet the required length. Hooks Alt0a and Alt1 are supported by an inline citation and are within policy.4meter4 (talk) 18:41, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But it was at time of nomination: "Assuming article is at 5x now, expansion began 138 edits ago on October 16, 2021" Grimes2 (talk) 18:54, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Grimes2 I double checked using a character count tool to compare versions of the article, and I am confident the assessment is accurate. This time I was extra careful by only using prose text and excluding references, section titles, and inline citation numbers from the character count per the Wikipedia:Did you know/Reviewing guide which indicates the expansion must be in prose. This version before expansion has 1,951 characters of prose (that's including the reports and rewards). The current version has 7,878 characters of prose. This version from the time of nomination has 7,725 characters of prose which is smaller not larger than the current version. It's not long enough as 9755 characters of prose are required to meet the 5x expansion of prose text.4meter4 (talk) 19:53, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I use User:Shubinator/DYKcheck. (The prose is without awards) old revision: Prose size (text only): 1391 characters (231 words) "readable prose size". new revision: Prose size (text only): 7097 characters (1165 words) "readable prose size" Grimes2 (talk) 20:16, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I arrive at the same as Grimes2, - the Shubinator check simply says 16 October. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:29, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can go with that. It's probably a valid argument to not include the bulleted awards in the prose count. If we exclude that from the original prose count, it would allow the current count to be a five time expansion. In which case ALT0a would be my preference in hook promotion. This one is ready to go.4meter4 (talk) 20:42, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@4meter4, Gerda Arendt, and Grimes2: Thanks folks for all the assist when I was away. Much appreciated. @4meter4 -- please can I ask your assistance in approving ALT1 as well? I thought it had a good DYKish feel to it. Thanks much for your consideration. Ktin (talk) 22:59, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Modified ALT0 to T:DYK/P6 without image
