Opening sentence[edit]

The article's first sentence is misleading; this song is not widely accepted as the first rock 'n' roll song. This is the only reference I have ever seen in 15 years of serious reading about the history of pop music and rock 'n' roll that mentions this song as the first rock 'n' roll song. Furthermore, the use of the subjective "honor" in this sentence further steers away credence. My preference is to delete the first sentence, but I thought it would be better to mention that here instead of simply deleting the sentence myself and reordering the footnote references, since the first one would now be number 2 and so on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.182.34.191 (talk) 19:48, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with your point, so I've revised the first sentence on the assumption (I don't have the book) that the cited reference by Jay Warner actually does make that claim. Obviously it's only one author's position, but it is a referenced one. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:00, 7 June 2009 (UTC) PS. the footnote numbers are applied automatically.[reply]
