Untitled[edit]

On the name Géza von Habsburg. The name is a giveaway that he is from the Hungarian line of Habsburgs. By the way the operative languages are indeed German Hungarian and Latin if you discuss Hungarian Habsburgs not English OK? The Habsburgs AEIOU Austriae est imperare Orbis Universo or Bella gerant alli et tu felix Austria nubes. Look these up if you dont have Latin. The Habsburgs were very prolific and had enough progeny to send to their various countries. Thus the nádor or palatine which was a sort of Governor General of Hungary for hundreds of years was very often a junior member of the k und k kaiserische königliche császári és királyi imperial and royal that is the Empire of Austria and the Kingdom of Hungary family. So it helps to know a bit of history and no need to get hysterical about royalty or nobility. These were historical facts like it or not and they are pretty much extinct as active political forces nowadays. At any rate the fact that a Habsburg is called Géza is inded curious. Habsburgs originated from Switzerland and moved later to Austria and much later to Hungary. BTW their original name was Hapsburg. Their family is only 8OO years old. Or less. Géza was a Hungarian ruler predating any Hapsburgs by several centuries and has become a very common and often aristocratic or nationalist Christian name of thousands of Hungarians. So if you name someone Géza you affirm a very strong Hungarian identity, which of course is fairly odd for even a Hungarianised Habsburg. Now you know. Jablánczy Sándor
