Does he speak Italian?[edit]

In the Fellini film And the Ship Sails On Freddie Jones portrays Orlando, the journalist who essentially narrates the film. Was his voice dubbed into Italian? I would assume so since he has no other Italian credits. But why then was he cast in the role? --Mathew5000 18:34, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This well-written blog by journalist Matthew Dessem says this: "Freddie Jones speaks his lines in English, as do several other actors; they've all been dubbed in Italian with near complete indifference to the movement of his lips. Once I realized some of the actors were speaking English, I found the movie difficult to watch, because I couldn't stop lip-reading. Italian films almost never use direct sound, but if you compare five minutes of Nights of Cabiria with five minutes of And the Ship Sails On, you can immediately see the difference between good and bad postsynchronization work. This isn't strictly a function of Fellini letting his English-speaking actors act in their native tongue, either; the Italians do an excellent job of dubbing American movies so that they appear to feature direct sound."
And IMDb Trivia says this: "According to an excerpt from the book I, Fellin, the renowned director was uncertain about casting Freddie Jones in the role of Orlando, mainly for the fact that he would be a British type within a Mediterranean setting. When he saw an ice-cream advertisement, carrying the brand name Orlando on the sign of a bus, Fellini took it as a favorable omen and Jones got the part." In credits shouldn't he also be mentined for 1984 "Dune"? Also Sherlock Holmes TV series?

Sandy Thomas[edit]

I see that the Twitterati are repeatedly describing him as being "best known for playing Sandy Thomas in Emmerdale".

Anyone attempting to even imply that in this article will be introduced to the concept of recentism with extreme impoliteness. Britmax (talk) 18:34, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Steven Whyte lead image[edit]

I contacted Steven today, via social media, about the date of the image, and he said this: "I think it was about 1990-1991. It was taken at the Sir Henry Doulton School of Sculpture in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent when Freddie came to sit for me. The bust was shown at a show in London, I’m not sure I remember it’s fate, I wanna say he bought it, but I can’t be sure." This information can't be used as a date, of course, unless it appears somewhere in a WP:RS and we do not know of any. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:00, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
