A Day at the Races[edit]

I don't see the Marx Brothers movie in the filmography - was it A Day at the Races? // Habj 23:18, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From my understanding, it's a popular misconception that Frankie Manning was in A Day at the Races, but he wasn't. He was doing something else while Whitey's Lindy Hoppers were filming that movie, so he didn't appear in it. --Cswrye 00:32, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lindy hop[edit]

Was Frankie actually one of the founding fathers? I don't think so. He danced it, and he created the first aerial, but when he started, the lindy hop was already going on. If you are looking at quotes from him in This thing called swing, by christian batchelor, he states himself starting on it, after it had already begun. I think we should change this. If there isn't any disagreement on this - I will do this in a few days. luh

From my understanding, Frankie is generally considered to be among the "second generation" of lindy hoppers, with Shorty George Snowden, Stretch Jones, and others being the true original lindy hoppers. That being said, I still think that it is fitting to call Frankie one of the founding fathers of Lindy Hop since he was a major part of the dance since its early days and did much to shape the dance during the swing era. Copyright Status of Frankie Manning gravesite image[edit]

The image of Frankie Manning's gravesite is a candidate for deletion because its copyright status is unclear. It seems apparent that a photograph of something that might be copyrighted requires the permission of the copyright holder in order for it to be freely distributed in the public domain.

There are too many technicalities and loopholes that pertain to copyright works. The image of Frankie Manning is one of the best gravesite photos that I have ever uploaded to Wikipedia, and I have uploaded A LOT of tombstone images to the encyclopedia. I would hate to have this picture deleted because it violates copyright law.

Unfortunately, there's not much that I can do to resolve the copyright issue on the photograph. I recall submitting a photograph of a statue of Jacob Javits, which was deleted for similar reasons. There was also a problem with a photo at Victor Borge's gravesite. It's a good thing that people themselves cannot be copyrighted. You wouldn't be able to upload anything to Wikipedia.

Son Charles or Chazz Young[edit]

The IMDB.com cites Frankie's children as Marion Price, Frank Manning and Charles Young, who born in 1935 and died in 2012. But not cites Chazz Young as the son of Frankie. Chazz Young is the son of Frankie Manning and his birth name is Charles Young. So does the imdb knows that Chazz young died in 2012, but why the wikipedia doesn't know. References?[edit]

The "Early Life" and "Revival" sections are not referenced at all. Does anyone know where this information came from? How does anyone reading this know it's true? The style in which the article is written, with sentences like:

"Once he got in the dance circle, he started to really get a feel for dancing and he didn't want to stop." and 

"Frankie really loved his mother and wanted to do things to please her, so that is why he wanted to learn how to dance", doesn't help its credibility since it sounds like they came from a paper someone might write for a 5th grade history class.
