Peer Review[edit]

The article about Fons Trompenaars model is very interesting and understandable. It is a well-structured and enlightening article that details the cultural differences. The seven dimensions clarify, that people from different countries have different attitudes and opinions about certain subjects. Also their behaviors and manners can be traced back to their home country where they came from.
Based on the seven stages I was able to pick out my own personality traits. But sometimes I tended to choose both possibilities, because in my opinion tends a behavior to be dependent on the situation I am in. For example the third dimension: In business life I tend to be neutral and in personal life emotional. And here I think is the problem with the method by Fons Trompenaars, especially because of the increasing mixture of cultures. People adapt and adopt behaviors. This is why I think that in the future more and more behaviors will be cultural mix together.
Some things I would edit are to bracket the countries on the first dimension so that they are internal linked to the other wikipedia pages. Someone should also write something about, where this model is used; management?, education?, social science?, marketing? I also miss some advantages and disadvantages of the model. And the 5th and 7th dimension, achievement vs. ascription and internal vs. external control, seem to me compared to the other dimensions not detailed enough.
But my overall impression is very positive. It is a well researched and written article and I might even suggest buying a book, which is listed under the books paragraph. --Den.geg (talk) 11:43, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of the subject is questioned[edit]

The subject of this entry is a consultant in a niche field. There is no indication that this person has met Wikipedia standards for notability. For example, there is no indication that he has received a well-known and significant award or honor or has been nominated for one several times. There no indication that the person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his specific field. Hence, the subject does not meet a single criterion for inclusion in Wikipedia. Looking in google scholar there is evidence of impact and his resume mentions awards, so he seems notable per WP:ACADEMIC, however the article looks like a WP:COATRACK for his model of culture with seven dimensions which is not notable enough for an article. I agree that the article does not document that he meets the standard for notability but I suspect this is mainly because of the way it is written, rather than a lack of notability of the subject. His model and his books are widely used in culture courses and my recollection is that he has been mentioned in many articles. I suggest that instead of deleting this article it would be more appropriate to rewrite it. What I suggest is to add sourced material to address the notability issue, cut the description of the model to eliminate the coatrack problem and also add a section about the critiques of his model (well known to culture people but strangely absent here). I agree with Andrew that the subject is notable. His works are also cited in cross-cultural psychology, and although he's more active in Europe than the US, he's definitely a major player in the field. Shandong44 (talk) 16:58, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A quick check on Google Scholar shows that there are more than 5000 citations for his book "Riding the Waves of Culture" and more than 2500 other publications that refer to his work.
