Platycephalidae integration?[edit]

Hi, I just created the Platycephalidae page and was thinking of how to integrate this page with that one. It wouldn't be right to merge the two pages, as not all members of the family are Australian species. It also wouldn't be right to rename/move this page into the Platycephalus genus page as not all members of the genus are Australian species.

Perhaps it would be ok if I or someone were to create the Platycephalus page for the genus, and then we could move the taxobox in this article over to there? This article could then refer to just the species referred to as "flatheads" in Australia and not the entire genus? Shrumster 18:53, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just created the Platycephalus page! I'll be removing the taxobox in a while. We should either expand the list of species to include all members of the family that are specifically called flatheads or eschew the list entirely. Hmm...I'll try removing the species list and instead posting a list to the species link of the family page itself. Hope anyone doesn't mind.

BTW, the fringe-lipped flathead pic to the right isn't a member of the genus Platycephalus, which is one of the reasons I'm taking the taxobox out. Seems like the article should be re-inclined towards the sportfishing aspect of flatheads. Shrumster 19:39, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article feels awkwardly schizophrenic in nomenclature. It was apparently started as a sportfish article, and now largely but only partially overlaps Platycephalidae. Perhaps it should be delineated as covering sportfish, or otherwise distinguished from referring to a taxonomic group, which would be the assumed categorization for critters in an encyclopedia. Otherwise, it may be simplest to merge it into Platycephalidae, and there say that some members are referred to as "flathead". ENeville (talk) 21:07, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
