University[edit]

Which one?

Fiona Mactaggart went to the University of London, King's College (as it was known then).

I was also a student at King's at the same time, and on the student union with her. She won't, of course, remember me, but I remember her.

Her favourite hobbyhorse (she had several) in union meetings was 'the 1962 student'. I do not know to this day what significance this year bore for her, but it was obviously stubbonly stuck in her mind. All references to anything monetary connected with students, such as grant awards, student costs, allowances, etc were obsessively measured against the fortunes of students in the Golden Age of 1962. And if you haven't yet realised, socialist Fiona was harking back to this Golden Age which was under Conservative government. This went on unabated until one day the union president lost his temper with her.

If you saw her coming down the corridor, you did the honourable and sensible thing: you turned round and quickly walked in the opposite direction. It was clear to me that she would end up in politics one day; she just had that natural ability to bore.

If you're going to make a personal attack, at least have the courage and honesty to give your name. I too was on the student union with Fiona. We did argue from time to time, but she was intelligent, passionate and worth having a conversation with. She certainly did have a sense of humour, but did not find sexism at all funny. Why should she? She was more mature than many of the overgrown little boys who predominated at King's, probably including myself.
I am concerned that aspects of this article are a hatchet job. Yes, Fiona was a member of the YSSS in her first year, but she soon grew out of it. I don't think she "sought to live down her school days": she never pretended to be anything she wasn't. She wasn't the kind of political animal who courted popularity. She had enough self-confidence to present her case, and let people take it or leave it. Sasha (talk) 11:54, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.

The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.

Please help us determine consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 19:38, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
