First, I doubt that the definition in terms of "area" is correct. I bet it is correctly defined in terms of solid angle. In any case, it would be great to give an example unit. Second, in terms of remote sensing, for a scanning instrument, is it sensible to talk about an FOR? If you fly an instrument with a fixed FOV in an orbit that eventually points the instrument at the entire sky, is the FOR then the full sphere (4 pi solid angle)? My hunch, which is not allowed on Wikipedia, as you need references, is that instantaneous FOV has an analog to instantaneous FOR; that is, the meaningful definition of FOR is the full region in solid angle that an instrument could be pointed at at any given moment. THerefore, the FOR of a fixed sensor array on a moving platform (e.g. an orbiting spacecraft) is still only the FOV. It would be great if someone could clear this up.
