Word Salad or Not?[edit]

I think the guy's speech in this episode is an example of word salad. Another editor disagrees. Let's talk it out. I'll start. Word salad is "a string of words that vaguely resemble language, and may or may not be grammatically correct, but is utterly meaningless" according to Wikipedia. The article on Homsar says his speech pattern is word salad. Those are my two evidences. What do you guys think?

Wernicke[edit]

The guy is portraying a somewhat typical manifestation of Wernicke's type of aphasia : His mind is clear, he's still oriented, his speech is fluent, but what he says has no meaning and he is unable to realise it.

I'm not used to English medical slang, but from what I read in the linked article, it seems that word salad term is more often used with symptoms associated with mental illnesses : psychosis are mentioned, manic diseases too (ok, this episode's patient is supposed to be bipolar, but on the hand the speech impairment is supposed to be due to his infection). It's not mentioned as being a typical term used to describe aphasias (where the patient is mentally OK, the tough process are running as usual, but when he tries to convert this though into speech, the process fails).

But as I said, English isn't my primary language of studies, so I'm not used to these expressions. And I might be wrong. "incoherent speech" "aberrant/weird choice of meaningless words" could be a better choice to both pick something that is easy to understand by average reader, and doesn't conflict with a reserved meaning for specific disease as "word salad" apparently has in English medical slang DrYak (talk) 15:34, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Great Escape?[edit]

When House is sitting in the airport hallway bouncing a ball against the wall, it really seemed to me like this was a reference/homage/whatever to Steve McQueeen/Virgil Hilts in The Great Escape. Or am I just imagining things? Thanks. CSWarren (talk) 17:27, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use.
