Stanislawski Era[edit]

I think that the history of the club's recent history should be cut to prevent the "Into the new millennium" section from being too large. Support[edit]

Turbonegro[edit]

In the beginning of the Turbonegro song "I got erection", which according to the article is dedicated to FC St. Pauli, they say the following: 

Happy-Tom: Hank, what to you think about Hansa Rostock?"
Hank von Helvete: Hansa Rostock? They are pussies, heavy metal pussies...Ich bin geil! (i'm horny)

Nicknames[edit]

Dates & dashes[edit]

En dashes should be used in scorelines and only full dates and dates with a day and month should be wikilinked, including in the footnotes. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dashes) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers). Epbr123 20:53, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

After reviewing the style manual links you provided: the wikilinking of years appears to be something that is up in the air and looks to depend on the preference of various editors; there is no reference at all to the use of dashes in sports scores that I could see - the use of a colon is a common convention in German football, and so can at least be said to fit the context in the absence of a hard and fast rule. ??? Celtic FC[edit]

You can purchase CelticFC/FC St Pauli merchandise at the official Celtic online superstore. It’s well known that there are links between the supporters and the teams have played each other and participated in fund raisers, but does anyone know the significance of this official merchandising? And is it noteworthy?

The "unique links" are all in the minds of a tiny handful of Celtic fans and some ignorant St Pauli fans who have not done their homework. Indeed, it is highly ironic given that Celtic fans routinely sing songs in support of the IRA. With specific reference to Sinn Fein/IRA there is much to say about the open link with Nazi philosophy and Nazi Germany. At the beginning of the 20th century Arthur Griffith, the founder of Sinn Féin, published anti-Semitic articles in the republican United Irishman newspaper. At the outset of the war in 1939 Sinn Fein/IRA refered to her "victorious European allies" - referring to Nazi Germany and the other axis powers. In February 1939 Nazi agent Oskar Pfaus travelled to Ireland to liaise with prominent IRA terrorist Jim O'Donovan the IRA Army council do discuss options for co-operation and agreed that the IRA would assist the Nazis through a program of sabotage and espionage.

At the declaration of war in 1939 Sinn Fein/IRA responded by attacking targets in England - also receiving financial support for their enterprise by support from Irish American Clan na Gael. It is interesting to note that on the day Britain and Germany went to war that the first soldier to be shot was by the IRA in Belfast. Nazi Agents Ernst Drohl and Herman Goertz arrived in Ireland in 1940 to assist and co-ordinate the Sinn Fein/IRA fifth column.

IRA Chief of Staff Sean Russell offered his services to Hitler. Sean Russell had been in contact with the Nazi regime from 1936 and travelled to Berlin in May 1940 to receive bomb making and sabotage training and was in talks with the German foreign ministry regarding further avenues of co-operation and mutual interest which would support the Nazi war effort against Britain. Following the fall of France in 1940 Germany had planned "Operation Kathleen" in which Sinn Fein/IRA would act as go-betweens and a fifth column to persuade the Irish Free State to invade Northern Ireland and facilitate the mass landing of German invasion troops at Larne and Londonderry. They would assist the Nazis in occupying Northern Ireland as a stepping stone into the rest of the UK as part of their planned invasion. Russell and prominent Sinn Fein/IRA activist and Nazi collaborator Frank Ryan were dispatched on a U-boat to Ireland by the Nazis in operation Taube which failed due to Russell's death.

Rangers FC irrelevant[edit]

Rangers FC, and any proposed tenious link between that club and Hamburger, is irrelevant to the link between the Celtic and St Pauli supporters. Indeed, it was originally St Pauli fans who nurtured an affinity for Celtic (http://www.talfanzine.com/fcstpauli.htm), which was duly reciprocated. It seems very unlikely St Pauli fans would have known of the alleged links between Hamburg and Rangers (a RSC was established there? Wow.). It is clear revisionism to state there were well-established links between Rangers and Hamburg; this being done in an attempt to discredit the Celtic-St Pauli friendship. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.30.175.68 (talk) 22:16, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits by user The Bias Remover[edit]

User The Bias Remover has recently made two edits to the article. First, he or she removed the following content from the intro: "and have a long-standing friendship with the supporters of Celtic Football Club from Scotland". Then, he or she, naturally, removed all sources provided for the content.

The only comment that user The Bias Remover made regarding the first edit was: "Removed uncited opinion". I wonder, did he or she even study the sources before he or she decided to entirely remove the content? I suppose not.

Let me give user The Bias Remover three quotes from the multiple sources:

  • "And 2007 was also the year that the official FIFA website reported on the fan friendship between St. Pauli and Celtic that can be traced back to the late 80s - Uli Hesse, ESPN
  • "The special bond between the Hoops and this off-the-wall German second-tier side harks back two decades and emanates from a shared ethos in fan politics and beliefs." - Gordon Parks, the Daily Mail
  • "There has been a tremendous friendship between the two clubs and more importantly, the two sets of supporters, for the past 20 years." - Sandy Jamieson, Director SSIF (Sherbrooke Institute for the Study of International Football)

I also suggest that user The Bias Remover reads the article Kicking from the left: the friendship of Celtic and FC St. Pauli supporters by William McDougall.

I must say it feels pretty ironic that a user bearing the name "The Bias Remover" herself or himself makes edits in a way that can be considered bias. And despite the very ambitious name, the user has only made two edits, all of them to this article, and all of them to a certain content. Not much of bias removing.

Sections on supporters and club culture[edit]

I really think it is time to review the sections on supporters and club culture. The section on supporters is a complete mess of sourced and unsourced material, and the section on club culture should be filled out. Maybe I will begin working on the section on supporters this week, and I think I will summarize much of the content about musicians and bands that support the club (or who have been seen wearing club merchandise).
