File:Ernst Reijseger.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Ernst Reijseger.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Possible copyright violation[edit]

I came across this article after watching Cave of Forgotten Dreams. I noticed that in September 2011 Fivestringbassclef deleted the entire text of the article and replaced it with this edit. The current version of the article is a verbatim copy of this website.

Is this a copyright violation? Some things to consider:

  • Maybe Fivestringbassclef wrote the entire article offline and just uploaded it to Wikipedia all at once.
  • The page on europejazz.net is also dated September 2011, so maybe they copied it from Wikipedia.
  • Even if the Wiki article was copied from them, it might have been published under the appropriate license.

There is no author listed on the website in question, except possibly Jeff Tamarkin, but it's not entirely clear. There are no copyright notices that I can find. Some helpful links:

I assume good faith, but I want to get to the bottom of this. Braincricket (talk) 02:28, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the text as a copyright violation of that webpage. Although it is possible we had the text first if we can't prove that we err on the side of caution in cases like this due to the possible legal implications. Having had a lot of experience with copyright work on wikipedia it is also my opinion that the editor almost certainly copied from that webpage. If the editor who introduced the text is indeed the original author and copyright holder then they should follow the procedure below so that we have prove of this. (As a slight aside the lack of a copyright notice is irrelevant as the text is protected even without one). Dpmuk (talk) 20:34, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem removed[edit]

Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. The material was copied from: http://www.europejazz.net/mus/reijseger.htm. Infringing material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or published material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences or phrases. Accordingly, the material may be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Improvements needed[edit]

I noticed this article missing an infobox while surfing to work on other articles, so I added the infobox, with what little imformation that I could find in the stub. However, upon looking here on this talk page, with his tag as a classical musician, it is possible it's not the correct one but I think what's there should be OK right now, at least, since I think either kind might work as well.

I also noticed previous issues violating copyright, yet, there was a "listening" section someone added. When I was a much younger editor, I noticed an article with one, so I thought it was OK, and started doing it to the chagrin of others, until I found it was not OK. Whether the music is free to listen to or not, it still violates the copyright of the musicians themselves, and depending upon the case, also the website where it was found, their producers, songwriters, and others, which is why I had to delete it. I did add a proper reference section, and if anyone editing here needs help understanding how the inline references work, please do contact me on my talk page and I'll be happy to explain. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 08:09, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
