Untitled[edit]

I have added a stub for Eric Higgs because he has made a contribution to the philosophy of technology and ecology, particularly as an interpreter of Albert Borgmann in an ecological context. I wish to improve the general coverage of the philosophy of technology in WP, which I think is somewhat patchy at the moment. Until this morning it didn't even include Andrew Feenberg or Carl Mitcham, who are both identified (not by me) as "major contemporary philosophers of technology" on the Philosophy of technology page. And surely Eric Higgs, while not as prolific as Feenberg or Mitcham, is just as important as Eric Sidney Higgs. --RichardVeryard 13:10, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Technology and the Good Life represents an important contribution to the philosophy of technology, and that is the basis for my claim that Higgs deserves an entry in WP. Perhaps there is a wider problem in that WP doesn't fully recognize the significance of the philosophy of technology, since many of the other significant figures in the field are missing. --RichardVeryard 14:30, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Look, I don't even know what that shit is. I'm just trying to convey that two sentences that say "this guy is this! and He did this!" aren't good articles and they serve only to waste space. The article should be about him using sources that aren't him, but that talk about him. John Reaves 14:40, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Listen, it's a stub, right? I know it's not a fully fledged article yet. I want to get a load of new material onto WP, and I can't do it all at once. And meanwhile the sources I have put in so far do satisfy your criterion - not by him but about him. He is being talked about by people like Achterhuis and Durbin, in reputable journals such as Techne. --RichardVeryard 15:58, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder if this person really rises to the level of notability required for WP. Creator states "it takes time" - but it's been over a year, and I've had articles deleted within two or three days, on people I consider to be fairly established in a field. I learned from that. It's best to find a way of establishing the person's importance first - not every professor is eligible for inclusion in WP. I am considering nominating it for deletion as soon as I find out more about that process. --Levalley (talk) 23:01, 31 March 2009 (UTC)LeValley[reply]

Looks notable to me. Viriditas (talk) 00:09, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
