An idea: might this section be helpfully split in two? As you note the two major periods for English Art Song were both pre-war. What happened next? The post-war period seems to be dominated by Britten and thus by song-cycles; individual songs seem to become less important. Presumably there would have been reasons for this - would having two seperate sections help this be investigated? (maybe though the post-war rise of Britten may have undulying distracted attention away from a continuing tradition...) Almost-instinct (talk) 15:52, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
