Ken kaniff

He isn't homosexual. He'd just fuck anything. Wouldn't the term 'pervert' be more apropriate?

According to the Ken Kaniff skits I've heard, he is either talking about his homosexual intentions or is with a man sexually (Ref: "Ken Kaniff (Skit)" - The Marshall Mathers LP). He may be a 'pervert', however, the character Ken Kaniff doesn't seem to have any interest in women whatsoever, but has an interest in men, and being a man himself this makes Kaniff a homosexual. Please see the section on the article: Eminem#Ken Kaniff TomUSA 17:06, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

missing ?

there are some albums missing in the discography that i would like to find out what songs are in them ... the albums missing are curtain call and relapse: refill — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.114.65.13 (talk) 07:52, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

The discography written in the main article only present studio albums. "Curtain Call" is a compilation album and "Relapse: Refill" is a re-release to the album "Relapse" (the re-release does not have enough significant changes except for a few additional tracks). They are listed under the artist discography, along with other official releases. --Esanchez(Talk 2 me or Sign here) 07:58, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Mixtapes

http://lyrics.wikia.com/Eminem

Please view this link to Eminem's LyricsWiki page. It shows that Eminem has released a number of mixtapes, and they are not mentioned on Wikipedia, not even on Eminem's discography page. The mixtape titles include Off The Wall (2002), Fuckin' Crazy! (2001), and Eminem Is Back (2004). I can't believe we haven't even mentioned these. TomUSA 17:23, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Comparisons to other artists

The section is entirely about Asher Roth. I do not feel that eminem should have an entire section in his wiki entry dedicated to Asher Roth. This should be removed or expanded and my vote is for removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.9.26.107 (talk) 16:28, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

There are no other comparissons we can find. The reason that section is entirely about his comparission to Asher Roth is because there are no other artists we can directly find articles from XXL and other websites comparing them to Eminem. For now, the "Comparissons to other artists" is staying, and I'm sure we'll find another rapper to list there. TomUSA 18:31, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

There is a typo in the second paragraph. His first album appears twice in the list, once as a link and once without markup.

Eminem quickly gained popularity in 1999 with his major-label debut album, The Slim Shady LP. The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP and his third major album, The Eminem Show, all won Grammy Awards, making Eminem the first artist to win Best Rap Album for three consecutive LPs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Junkbit (talkcontribs) 13:02, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Done Although that wasn't a typo, and it wasn't all in one list. The repetition came in two separate sentences (note the period between them), but I have changed the second one to avoid the repetition. Thanks for your note. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 17:33, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

I request that you simply add somewhere on the page that eminem is one of the Greatest Of All Time. Proof is that he has sold so many albums and he has even made a song entitled "G.O.A.T" (Greatest Of All Time) claiming that he is. He was produced by Dr. Dre who is already a legend in the rap world I would simply like to see eminem called one of the best on wikipedia :)

Parodies

Edit request on 27 March 2012 Add a new section about parodies to the "Feuds" section of the article

Eminem's hit single "Not Afraid" from his newest album Recovery has had a number of parodies created in response to the song's message, video, and theme. "I Am Afraid" by CollegeHumor was posted on August 24, 2010, just over a month after the original single was released. The CollegeHumor video follows the cinematography techniques of Eminem's official music video, but incorporates imagery which is outlined by the re-written lyrics of the parodied song. While the CollegeHumor video parodies the concept of fear, The Key of Awesome, a YouTube comedy show, created a spoof of the song called "EMINEM Not Afraid Parody". It makes fun of what Eminem stands for, his celebrity persona and alter egos. The video also refers to things he has tweeted, rapped about, or been a part of in the past. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Strassap (talkcontribs) 14:58, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

New Section Proposal

Would it be appropriate to add a new section somewhere about Political hip hop? Some of Eminem's songs (a minority) have wiki articles that label them as political or conscience rap.

Even after searching through all his songs, the list will probably stay small, but these songs were incredibly popular (see Peak Position on Charts of each article) and were popular enough to have their own article/page. Perhaps that notability is enough to warrant a small section collectively mentioning them.

I'm a very new Eminem fan and admittedly like very few of his raps that aren't political/conscience, so I'm not sure how much my inexperience with rap, Eminem, and Wiki's Eminem article, and how much my bias towards the few conscience raps of his I've managed to find are affecting my thinking.

What do you all say? Is it a good idea? Can you post the names of his other conscience raps?

Some examples: When I'm Gone, Like Toy Soldiers, Love the Way You Lie, Mockingbird

do you know nothing? Eminem is a friend of Elton John and Eminem also produced 2pac's posthumous album "Loyal to The Game" after writing a letter to 2pac's mother asking if he could produce the album using material that was unreleased/pre recorded because he was moved by 2pacs work before 2pac's death. This is the album that ghetto gospel was on! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.156.33.57 (talk) 23:00, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Not done Tupac Shakur died in 1996, Eminem was not officially an active rapper yet. He did do a posthumous song with Tupac, however, Tupac did not record the song with Eminem in mind, because Eminem was not even a musician yet. Just because he did one thing with an artist (one who's deceased, I might add) does not qualify him/her to be an associated act. And he and Elton John did not collaborate on any music projects other than a live performance in which John sang the chorus to "Stan" by Eminem and Dido. Apparently, it was to prove that Eminem was not homophobic and had an open friendship with Elton John. The two are not associated with each other as music acts today. Feuds

Why is Sacha Baron Cohen mentioned in his feuds when both the text itself and Eminem have explained that it was no feud but a planned and rehearsed sketch. There is and was no animosity between them, but it was simply just that; a sketch.

The feud section overall is not representative to the beefs and feuds that has been a part of his career (such as back and forth diss songs) other MUCH more defining feuds should be included such as the beef Canibus, Everlast, Ja Rule, Benzino, Jermaine Dupree etc. All other feuds except Nick Cannon and Insane Clown Posse should be removed, as they are not feuds. Taking a stab at somebody in a song/video and having the "victim" comment it in media is not a feud. Gangamstyle (talk) 09:23, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

As more and more white rappers emerge onto the Hip-Hop scene, they can't help being compared to Eminem. These rappers include Mac Miller, Kinetics of Kinetics & One Love, Yelawolf, Machine Gun Kelly, and Sam Adams. In 2011, rapper Mac Miller received a comment from Donald Trump after Miller's music video titled "Donald Trump" reached 20 million views on YouTube. Trump praised Miller and called him "...the next Eminem." Criticism of this remark led MTV news to talk to Miller about the comment, with Miller responding "...all he meant was I’m a white rapper and I’m blowing up."[174]

Eminem's Mom's Birthdate

There is an internal conflict in the "Early Life and Beginnings" section. It says Deborah Briggs-Mathers (nee Nelson) was born in 1955 (with no reference). Then the page cites "50 things you didn't know about Eminem," which claims she was 15 when he was born. If Debbie was born in 1955, she would be 16 or 17 on October 17, 1972.

http://www.eminem.net/familytree/ claims that Debbie Mathers was born when HER mother Betty Kresin was 16. This website shows an age difference of 18 years between Eminem and his mother.

http://www.ovguide.com/debbie-mathers-9202a8c04000641f8000000000d0c2e3 claims she was born between 1955 and 1957, which would put her age at his birth between 14 and 17.

http://www.universalmetropolis.com/magazine/articles.php?articleid=400 claims she was MARRIED at 15 and gave birth 3 years later (17-19 years old).

I wonder if there are any birth records for Debbie Mathers. Do we know the city where she was born? Kaiadavid (talk) 04:44, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Eminem Comparisons

YouTube sensation, Hopsin ; currently an active west coast hip-hop artist, has been compared to Eminem after his Record label, "Funk Volume" debuted his album, "Raw". Which one song in particular sparked his comparison, His hit song, "Sag My Pants"(a YouTube Hit). Hopsin also drew similarities to Eminem from his song, "Kill Her"(targeting Tomica Wright, The Owner of Ruthless Records and the widow of Easy-E, for his struggles as a rookie rapper) ..which is often compared to Eminem's song, "Kim"(targeting his ex wife Kim). There is a factual error in the text

Lines 1 to 3 under the subheading "1972–95: Early life and beginnings". The author clearly states that Eminem's mother Debbie was born in 1955 and Eminem in 1972, making his mother about 17 years old at the time of birth. The Wikipedia article goes on: "His mother was 15 when she had him and nearly died during his 73-hour birth." The 15 is the error. The original source "Eminem's Dirty Secrets" states the following: "His mother, Debbie Mathers-Briggs, says she married his father, Marshall Mathers Jr., when she was 15; less than three years later, she almost died delivering her first son at the end of a 73-hour labor." According to the source: Debbie was married at age 15 and had Eminem sth over 2 years later. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.20.6.71 (talk) 13:17, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Article issues?

This article is miles away from becoming a Featured Article, even when it is a Good Article. Before requesting reassessment, I want to make sure if this article is not having any issues. For instance, the "Feuds" section consists of only one hatnote, as the content is already split into a stand-alone article. No efforts to summarize contents have yet been made. --George Ho (talk) 18:33, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Yeah that is why I originally was against splitting the feuds into another article. I think the major ones (Ja Rule, Benzino, Fred Durst, etc.) definitely should be summarized in this article. But not all of them need to be mentioned, especially the really minor ones (Christina Aguilera). STATic message me! 00:19, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

I see that this article has been nominated at WP:GAR for a community check on whether a re-assessment is needed. I don't see any glaring issues. Not done: That may be, but you need to have a source which makes the claim. The first source you provided has the opportunity and instead talk about how this is the first award to an active artist. Having a source fulfils several purposes: it makes the claim verifiable, it avoids creating original content and it shows that at least the source found the claim to be notable. The preferred path is for the editor to read the source and summarize its claims in the article. Making an observation and then looking for a source works only if a source makes the same observation. You should actually add the other accomplishments and stuff he done such as

"He won the first ever youtube award http://www.spin.com/articles/youtube-music-awards-winners-list-macklemore-ryan-lewis/" and "performed there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3MU0G0ekkE" and add

Kim Song

The song Kim was never performed live (when Kim slit her wrists afterwards). There's no proof in that source whatsoever. In a later interview, Kim admits to not knowing what the song was called. It obviously mentioned her, so it was likely "Kill You". The fact that nobody has a video of it on the internet should be further proof that it never happened. 67.173.155.22 (talk) 03:33, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

comparison to other artists

This section should IMHO be deleted. KJ-52 may have a flow that somewhat reminds of eminem, however he clearly does not play the same league as em, neither technically nor lyrically nor by sales. The only source that names the two artists in one sentence is a chrisian website, putting a question sign in the headline ( 'the chrisian slim shady?' ) and even that article is not available anymore. This is FAR from the two being 'often compared' to each other, that is just cheap advertisement for an otherwise more or less unknown artist.

2014–present: Empacalypse album and D12 Reunite

In January 2014, Mark Bass of the Bass Brothers confirmed that D12, had been recently recording at the F.B.T. studio and he had been mixing their recorded material. It was confirmed, Mathers was featured on at least three songs that have been completed. He also says, "Em is already working on his ninth project, He's alive! And is ready for battle, and it'll possibly be a double disc". Described it to be, his greatest recovery and compares it to Tupac Shakur The Don Killuminati: 7 Day Theory. Also stated, it'll be a spin-off to, The minem Show & Encore and said, it reminded him of his previous work, MMLP2, but with Dre's uplifting sounds and Em's powerful lyrics. He calls his new project,"Empacalypse". Expected 2015, after Yelawolf Love Story, Slaughterhouse and D12's Third album.

Infobox suggestions

Would anybody object to having the "Infobox person" template in the article so things like net worth, Hailie, Bruce, Debbie, and Kim can be included? I would simply embed the "Infobox musical artist" template into the "person" template. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 01:28, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for taking this to the talk page, however I would have to object. Eminem is universally known just for his music, compared to artists such as Justin Timberlake or Childish Gambino, where music is not the only thing they are best known for. There is nothing really too informative that would be added by using infobox person, that is not very easily found in the article multiple times. STATic message me! 03:02, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
To revive this conversation, @Davykamanzi:, I personally agree with the idea of "Infobox person" since it is a more flexible template that can incorporate information such as net worth, residence, parents, spouses, children, and other well-known relatives, that "Infobox musical artist" template cannot display. In response to STATic's comments, I personally have seen other artists such as Rihanna and Jay-Z who are primarily known for music with the "person" template. I will say though that it might be more suitable to use in this instance if there were articles on his parents, Kim, or Hailie separate from this article. After his debut album Infinite (1996), Eminem rose to mainstream popularity in 1999 with his second album The Slim Shady LP. The Slim Shady LP was a commercial success and earned the rapper his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. His next two releases, The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) and The Eminem Show (2002), were worldwide successes, each earning US Diamond certification in sales. Both albums also won the Best Rap Album Grammy Award, making Eminem the first artist to win such an award for three consecutive LPs. This was followed by Encore in 2004, another critical and commercial successful album. Eminem then went on hiatus after touring in 2005. He released Relapse in 2009 and Recovery in 2010, which was named the best-selling album of 2010 worldwide, becoming the rapper's second album, after The Eminem Show, to become the internationally best-selling album of its year. Eminem won Grammy Awards for both Relapse and Recovery, giving him a total of 13 Grammys in his career.[8] His eighth studio album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, was released in November 2013.

Contradictory statements

The Drug issues section currently states, 'His group-mate Proof from D12 stated that Eminem "sobered up" in 2002 from drug and alcohol dependence. During production of 8 Mile, Eminem worked on the set 16 hours a day and began to have trouble sleeping. An associate provided Eminem with an Ambien [...]. This would be Eminem's first experience with drug addiction that would follow him for several years afterward.' It seems to me that the Ambien can't have been his "first experience with drug addiction" if he had previously cleaned up from drug and alcohol dependence. I have no expertise in the subject matter so I don't want to just wade in and edit it myself; however, I note that the previous sobering up is sourced and the first experience on the set of 8 Mile does not appear to be.GideonF (talk) 17:44, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Alter Ego

Eminem's alter ego has been very important to his career and developing himself as an artist. When Eminem was a part of D12 (Dirty Dozen), the group was supposed to have 12 best rappers of Detroit,America. But the crew found only six, hence every one decided to make their Alter Ego's. Hence the name Slim Shady. According to an interview, Eminem said " I was taking a sh*t and the name just came to me, then I started thinking words which I could rhyme with Shady". With almost every album, Eminem has chosen to release the first singles as parodies of his fellow peer and celebrities. Songs such as “The Real Slim Shady”, “My Name Is”, “Without Me”, “Just Lose It”, “A** like that” and “We Made You” have all been used to kick off the promotion of a new album. While some may wonder why he uses celebrities as targets, he claims, “...[sometimes] you can get people's attention and hold it longer if you put it in lighter skits and interludes. Sprinkle in some shit that's funny, so when it's time to be serious again, people can give their full, undivided attention..”. [2]. Eminem has mocked many celebrities, such as Britney Spears, Sarah Palin, Moby, Hilary Duff, Elvis, Michael Jackson to name a few. Some have been offended, but some are also honoured and do not take it personally. Eminem justifies his use of parodies by stating that he feels it is more important for his videos to portray what was really going on at the moment than for the people that he makes fun of to experience hurt feelings [3]

To include in the associate acts [[Dina Rae (singer)|Dina Rae]] because, a lot of the hardcore Em fans since day one can agree, before the likes of Rihanna, there was one girl he'd have on a album and that was Dina Rae; she has appeared on at least 30 million records sold of his, The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, Devil's Night with D12 always appearing on track 13 and I think it should be included as she even has a Wikipedia page. I have been an Eminem fan for years but it's generally accepted that, starting with Encore, his work was less well received by fans and critics. Re: deletion, editor Snuggums appears to be acting in a WP:OWN manner. The section is important as Eminem is not only a notable person but one whose public image has taken a life of its own in popular culture. Many other notable people on WP have such sections in their bio pages. I.am.a.qwerty (talk) 06:24, 25 December 2014 (UTC)

Well, he was portrayed in a video game, as shown in his filmography, that's all I know, don't know much about Eminem, but I still think it would belong in the homophobia controversy due to it talking about him being gay. -- Joseph Prasad (talk) 06:28, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Re: move to homophobia section. As per editor Joseph Prasad's suggestion, I've moved the action to the homophobia controversy section for now, however, I strongly believe that the Eminem page is no different from other pages on WP and once additional material is located, it should be placed as a proper standalone section. Yes, Thank you. Once you can find more information, I think it can be in the "In pop culture" section. For now, leave it there. But, it should not be a stand alone section by itself. I was not trying to WP:OWN at all. In fact, I actually haven't edited this article very often in the past few months. In any case, his bit in The Interview certainly doesn't need its own section/subsection. Having an "In popular culture" section probably isn't a good idea as such a section can easily become bloated with excessive detail and trivia, so WP:OTHERSTUFF isn't exactly a convincing argument in this case. The article is already large enough at 146k. Snuggums (talk / edits) 06:42, 25 December 2014 (UTC)

if eminem is listed as an actor, surely he should be listed as a singer. also should skylar grey be an associated act? Omarlow (talk) 12:35, 2 January 2015 (UTC)omarlowOmarlow (talk) 12:35, 2 January 2015 (UTC)2 January 2015

@Omarlow: Eminem acted in films such as 8 Mile. He doesn't actually sing. Rappers such as Drake and T-Pain can be, but I don't think Eminem. -- Joseph Prasad (talk) 09:47, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Homophobia Controversy and Genderphobia

In Vincent Stephens book Italic text Popular Music, he has a chapter about Eminem and the "controversy" surrounding him about his homophobia but also brings up genderphobia by saying, "Eminem's critics fail to expose the complexity of his lyrics. Through a close reading of Eminem's lyrics and persona, I identify the distinctions between sexual object-choice and gender behaviour that the rapper makes in his lyrics and rhetoric. Too many critics unjustifiably collapse genderphobic aspects of hip-hop rhetoric under the rubric of homophobia. Conflating gender behaviour and sexual object-choice distorts the arguably dominant role of gender as an impetus for discrimination." Eminem admitted to being gay in the new movie "The Interview". This should definitely be added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.62.218.144 (talk) 05:13, 25 December 2014 (UTC)

That was definitely a joke in the movie. No need to change anything because of it. DanielDPeterson + talk 19:28, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Elton John speaks about Eminem

In a Rolling Stone article published in April of 2005, written in part by Elton John, John reflected upon his 2001 Grammy Awards performance of "Stan" alongside Eminem, saying "When we started to do the song and Eminem made his entrance, I got goose bumps the likes of which I have not felt since I first saw Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger, James Brown and Aretha Franklin. Eminem was that good...There are very few performers who can grab you like that the first time - only the greats." This would be an appropriate quotation to add to the section titled "Comparisons to other artists" to describe his live performances.

Elton John described his decision to work with Eminem, saying, "From the start, I've always admired Eminem's thinking. That's the reason I wanted to appear on the Grammys with him when I was asked, despite all the nonsense about his being homophobic and crap like that. Let the Boy Georges and the George Michaels of the world get up in a twist about it if they don't have the intelligence to see his intelligence." This would be an appropriate quotation to add to the second paragraph of the section titled "2000-02: The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show" after the first sentence about GLAAD condemning John's decision to perform with Eminem. Google searches themselves are not considered reliable sources. You'll have to find a better source for such information, though Hailie's full name can be included since it is reliably sourced within the article. I will add hers. Snuggums (talk / edits) 13:16, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
