Personal Communication[edit]

Added "Original Research" template, referring to citations of "Personal Communication". I did not remove the cited material, but it should be supported by publicly available sources. I haven't done a thorough search, but the sources I've seen only mention training at the Hildeshimer yeshiva.

this statement makes R' Dr. Berkovits sound like he instituted a new philosophy, particularly out of the boundaries of orthodox Judaism. He did no such thing, he just suggested an interpretation of a horrific phenomenon.

Agunot[edit]

I think it would be worthwile adding Rabbi Berkovits' solution to agunot. Rabbi Berkovits tried to institute a condtional marriage written in the Ketubah thereby preventing the woman from becoming an agunah. Basically what he suggested was that a woman would be an agent for her "get" and therefore she can deliver the "get" to herself and become divorced- only if the husband didnt comply. this notion was rejected vehementely by orthodox rabbis but was intially accepted (and i think still today) by the conservative community, i.e the Rabbinic Assembly. More is written on this topic in "Jewish Women in Jewish Law" by Moshe Meiselman.
