Purpose[edit]

I provided this page in response to Soarhead77's suggestion. I think the narrative is ok, but I would prefer a sexier title, if anyone has one? Citations are tricky, because the technical aspects are not (so far as I know) in the public domain.

It would be helpful if someone could add the ultimate fleet size (I suppose 4-EPB, 2-EPB, all the CEP's and CIG's and VEP's, and the REP's and 4-TC's -- and therefore the 33 and 76 class locomotives, which could work in multiple with them) and an indication of when the supremacy of this type of stock was first challenged -- the 5-car Bournemouth electrics I think?

Finally, I believe (but am not certain) that the SR demu's had the same braking system, including the Hastings Units and the Oxted units.
