I've done some work to improve this article now. It still needs some external sources, but I'm hoping that it no longer deserves the context tag. I also wanted to point out that the concepts pertaining to edge enhancement are very similar to those for unsharp masking, and in some ways people could use one term when they mean the other, or use one term for both. mmj (talk) 05:00, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not the Same[edit]

This is in response to the "suggestion" EE be merged with Unsharp Masking. These are different processes that produce similar results. That doesn't make them mergeable under one subject or another. With a whole new subject e.g. "Taking the Blur out of Photos", EE and UM could be combined.

As far as acutance is concerned: "In photography, acutance is the edge contrast of an image". Who is making these suggestions that a definition of the quality of a photo be "merged" with EE and/or UM, both processes? Get your concepts right. This EE article is fine as it stands, so is the UM article. Cross referencing is sufficient. Dangnad (talk) 23:36, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is completely obvious that acutance should not be merged with EE and sufficiently obvious that EE should not be merged with Unsharp masking. Given how long the suggestions have been open and lack of supporting arguments, the suggestions should be closed at once. 204.191.88.96 (talk) 20:41, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sharpness isn't edge enhancement[edit]

The sharpness knob I'm used to is actually controlling the beam convergence. It can get out of tune, and requires an adjustment to keep the beam tight. A little bit out of tune results in a fuzzy image.12.139.157.2 (talk) 20:25, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
