Talk:Earthquake insurance

A discussion of the entities covered by earthquake insurance is needed. For example, in California the insurance covers only home owners. Condo owners can cover the interior of their unit and its contents but the home owners association does not have access to similar policies as other home owners. So a condo owner is at risk if the association does not rebuild and if the other owners do not have the means to restore their interiors. 68.75.28.144 12:43, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not at all sure that this article isn't US-centric. "Most ordinary...policies do not cover earthquake loss" -- this perhaps is true in the US but not in the rest of the world. Also, the "New Zealand" section isn't particularly accurate -- all insurance covers EQ risks, but the EQC takes levies from private insurance and covers the first NZ$100k of damage caused by natural distasters (plus NZ$20k of contents), with the commercial insurer covering the remainder of claims. The EQC is government backed and covers land damage as well as property damage, but only applies to residential dwellings. This protects the solvency of the insurance companies.Tillsbury (talk) 00:25, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
