Driver's education[edit]

Successful completion of a driver education course is often required by many state agencies before young drivers receive their driver license or learner's permit. Courses defining the rules of the road and safe driving techniques are sometimes offered at local high schools or through independant agencies. Drivers ed courses are now also offered through online education websites. Such websites (example: DriversEd.com[23]) offer an alternative to classroom courses as some schools do not offer driver education due to increased budget cutbacks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.101.186.2 (talk) 22:20, 5 January 2006
Again, please check with your state Department of Motor Vehicles before accepting "blanket" on-line driver education programs, as they may not be accepted as an alternative. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.213.92.64 (talk) 15:33, 26 March 2008

Rename[edit]

I just moved this article from Driver's Ed to Driver's Education per a request at WP:RM. Then, I noticed that the move template on this talk page was suggesting Driver's education, with a lower-case 'e'. I feel like it's a proper noun, being the title of a specific course in schools, but if I'm wrong about that, I can help move it to the lower-case title. -GTBacchus(talk) 05:31, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ohiodriversmanual.jpg[edit]

Image:Ohiodriversmanual.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

On Track Section[edit]

I'm not sure that all the information in the section is relevant to an article on Driver's Ed. At the same time, there is not really enough information to warrant a separate article on the subject in my opinion.

Also, the uberpedia link cited at the end of the section indicates that the article originally was taken verbatim from another website. The site does not provide any sources relevant to this section so any implication that the link verifies the information in the article is false. Should this link be left in? Maybe it'd be best if the section was condensed and rewritten. Orange43 (talk) 18:48, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article name[edit]

The first tag (of many), includes the words "may not represent a worldwide view of the subject". It seems to me the problem could be addressed by simply changing the title of the article to 'Driver's Education (US). You have to read about halfway through before realising which country it concerns. At a later date, when it is more 'worldwide', the article title could lose the '(US)' suffix. Driver's educationDriver's education in the United States – Tried moving this already but an editor claims it is a controversial move. This does not appear to be the case. Also, the issue with systemic bias is quite easily fixed by doing a page move. The article is only about the US so the article title should reflect that. -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 08:06, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - fixing the bias by changing the name is a lazy solution. Drivers education is a global topic and the article should be expanded to reflect that. Wikipedia doesn't have any timescales or deadlines, so if the tags have to stay for another year until someone choses to fix the issue then so be it. --Biker Biker (talk) 08:38, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support WP:BIAS clearly focused on the US, move this page and put a stub in its place at this title to cover the world . 70.24.251.71 (talk) 08:44, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose until there is a suitable replacement article. Having Driver's education redirect to a U.S.-specific article is arguably worse than the status quo. Alternatively, fix the dang article. Powers T 19:36, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • If you move the article, a stub can be quickly put in its place. 70.24.251.71 (talk) 08:18, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Write the stub, then we can talk. Powers T 03:55, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
        • Move the biased page, then a space will open up for a stub. 70.24.251.71 (talk) 11:36, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
          • I can't support a move until there's something to move into its place. Powers T 19:00, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism by Daniel R. Mayhew of the Traffic Injury Research Foundation[edit]

Daniel R. Mayhew of the Traffic Injury Research Foundation has criticized driver's education programs for not demonstrating a positive effect, though driver education should not be abandoned, he said. Driver education and graduated licensing in North America: Past, present, and future

Needs to go in a larger section discussing the pros and cons of driver education. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 21:20, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
