"broadcast"[edit]

Anyone have an idea where the phrase "sowing broadcast" the dragon's teeth comes from? I've traced it to Dickens (Tale of Two Cities, III.4, "Calm in Storm"; 1859); Hawthorne, Scarlet Letter (1850) and also his Golden Fleece book in 1888. I don't know if this helps, but broadcasting is a type of sowing - throwing the seeds widely while progressing over a field. It is from this that that broadcasting in the radio sense is derived. Gaius Cornelius (talk) 08:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cultural References[edit]

I question whether the Dragon's Teeth (fortification) and Dragon's Teeth (mass effect weapon) are cultural references to the mythological use of Dragon's Teeth. Personally, I think they refer more to the idea of a dragon's teeth (e.g. the fortification looks like teeth), and not to the Dragon's Teeth that grow warriors. Others' thoughts would be appreciated. additional possible cultural references, if they can be confirmed[edit]

During the war in Vietnam, the US military made use of cluster bombs to create instant minefields using the BLU-43 "Dragontooth" antipersonnel mine.

Stephen Vincent Benet's poem "Litany for Dictatorships" contains this passage:

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose merging Spartoi into Dragon's teeth (mythology). I think the content in Spartoi is near-identical to that of Dragon's teeth (mythology), and a merger would not cause any article-size or weighting problems in here. I am choosing Dragon's teeth as the destination page due to its much-simpler-to-find name. Also Spartoi is specifically related to the myth of Cadmus and thus less general.ReyHahn (talk) 10:17, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
