Notability[edit]

Is this man notable in his own right? The only part of the article that does not concern his association with his famous brother was a single sentence at the end listing 2 other bands he has been in. I've brought this sentence to the lead and moved the U2 stuff into an "Early Life" section. Notability is not inherited so if this musician is indeed notable enough for his own article then we need a lot more than a single sentence about his life and work after he left The Hype. Yes, the article as it had been was not decent and was clearly written by someone look at him only from the U2 angle, however, before you re-placed the notability tag on 19:35, 14 September 2013, more had been added (with references) about his contributions in other bands that by followers of the genre, are immediately recognizable names. Your reason for adding the tag again would have only been valid if he had been a member of a single band. The criteria of notability requires meeting "at least" one of the numbered requirements. #6 reads: "Is an ensemble which contains two or more independently notable musicians, or is a musician who has been a member of two or more independently notable ensembles." He clearly meets the requirements quite well, no matter who his family is, based on his own merits. Is the article ready to be nominated to be a FA? Absolutely not. I re-placed the notability tag because my concerns had not been addressed, either on the talk page here or User:Andy_Dingley's edit summary: "rm notability tag. Founding member of the Virgin Prunes", given that I had fully taken into consideration his status as a founding member of the Virgin Prunes when adding the tag in the first place. You clearly didn't think yourself that your edit on 20:07, 6 September 2013‎ was enough to address the tag else you would have removed it yourself then. Feedback and The Hype aren't independently notable, and if either The Kid Sisters, The Screech Owls, or Deborah "Debbie" Schow are notable then Wikipedia is sorely lacking articles about them. His notability remains unclear. I do understand the frustration because if The Hype to U2 was a considered a simple rename instead of separate, distinct bands then he would pass the requirements. I'm slightly confused how you'd think I did not think adding more sources meant that I personally felt the subject was not notable - Wikipedia is a collaboration, and as such, after I do something such as restore an article that should not have been deleted in the first place, I will not ever remove a tag put up by someone who deletes the article in the first place. In order to remain neutral, if others come and feel that the article is notable on its own, that's great. At any rate, the subject clearly meets WP:MUSBIO standards based on independent references. There are several dozen subjects in a number of different areas I've come across in the last month alone that are lacking Wiki articles - simply because one doesn't already exist doesn't mean it shouldn't. He does not seem notable and the Virgin Prunes do not seem notable either.--Jack Upland (talk) 04:22, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
