Template Questioning Article's Satisfaction of Notability Appears to be Unwarranted[edit]

Desi-Rae Young appears to pretty clearly satisfy the "Notability" requirements as she has earned numerous prominent awards and recognitions for her athletic performance (both at the high school and collegiate levels), has been the subject of media coverage for her athletic performance for a number of years, and currently is arguably the best player on one of the best women's basketball teams in the Mountain West Conference. References supporting all of this information has been thoroughly cited throughout the article. — Preceding Wiki Page Polisher (talk) 18:22, 13 October 2021 (UTC) comment added by Wiki Page Polisher (talkcontribs) [reply]

Then submit it for review instead of bypassing the afc process which as a paid editor you should never do. Theroadislong (talk) 19:19, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have done so now (regarding submitting it for review). I am new to the paid editing (only started less than 3 months ago), so before you pointed this out, my (mis-)understanding was that I could publish articles into the mainspace if the article/content met Wikipedia's objectivity, citation, notability, etc. requirements - details which I always do upfront research on before accepting a project so I could avoid my work product ever coming into question (as you can see from my writing, the article is objectively voiced and thoroughly sourced, so I take these standards seriously). But I understand what you're saying now, and have submitted it for AfC review. Sorry for any confusion or extra work on your end. Thanks. Comments for AfC Reviewer[edit]

Hello, thank you for reviewing Desi-Rae Young's article. I noticed a flag stating there may be a notability issue with this article/subject. As such, I wanted to lay out some quick concise reasoning as to why I believe Young clearly meets the notability requirement. Please see below. Thanks!

Desi-Rae Young satisfies the Wikipedia notability criteria, specifically that prescribed by Wikipedia:Notability (sports) under “Amateur sports persons”, “College athletes and coaches” as she was the subject of non-trivial and non-routine media coverage as a Division I female athlete in a prominent athletic conference (Mountain West Conference) throughout her freshman season from Fall 2020 through Spring 2021. Namely, Young was recognized by the NCAA and NCAA.com in its “Starting Five” (recognizing the top five players of the week in NCAA women’s college basketball) as well as the Mountain West Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Young further meets the notability requirement by specifically satisfying Criterion 1 of “College athletes and coaches”, which states “Have won a national award (such as those in Template:College Football Awards or the equivalent in another sport)….” Template:College Football Awards, in which Criterion 1 is rooted, specifically includes “Conference awards” in the Template’s list of awards. Regarding qualifying awards, Criterion 1 states “or the equivalent in another sport”, which obviously infers that “Conference awards” in other sports, such as women’s college basketball, are equally satisfactory in terms of the notability threshold. Young clearly meets this threshold. After her freshman season, Young was recognized for and earned three prominent, nationally recognized Mountain West Conference awards: (1) Mountain West Freshman of the Year, (2) Mountain West All-Freshman Team, and (3) Mountain West All-Conference Team Honorable Mention.
