I have been to Sharme El Sheikh in Egypt twice now and this tree is growing everywhere some in flower and some with the seed pods dangling, it was also all over Ciaro. I brought some seed pods home and planted some of the seed and 2 have sprouted! I live in the northwest of England by the way, and they are growing in my greenhouse at the moment, we are having a hot and excelent summer this year. I took a photo of it in Egypt but was told it was a hibiscus tree, which I doubted so checked on the internet and found it to be this delonix regia.

Lilac poincianas??[edit]

I'd like to debate that line about there being 'lilac' poincianas in Puerto Rico. Without documentation, I doubt such a colour variation is possible, and I think the writer is getting the flamboyants mixed up with jacarandas - they have a very similar leaf and umbrella, but the flowers are of a completely different shape and the branch growth is rather different on closer examination.

Pending somebody coming up with a photograph, I'm editing that phrase out.

(I just finished sweeping under my own poinciana, in fact)

Red Flamboyant[edit]

Hi, I went to the Domican republic this year in Mar/Apr 08. This tree grows in abundance there...I bought some seed pods home...and I also planted them and only 2 sprouted, they are about 6" tall..they are in my kitchen window at night and out on the patio in the day...they are growing fine..I am in the Southwest..

Leaves & season[edit]

I live with the plants for about 40 years in the mascareignes & consider it necessary to review the leaves/season section. To my experience, the tree is planted mainly for decorative purposes and not so much for shade as it possesses average amount of leaves which are tiny. It is rivalled by may other trees for shade. All its leaves are lost during the relatively cold season when there is little rainfall in the southern hemisphere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.222.99.45 (talk) 16:45, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Main photograph quality[edit]

I have a quick suggestion. The quality of the main photo is pretty low and it might be a good idea to replace it with a better one to improve the quality of the article. Kobitate94 (talk) 13:34, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Llama del Bosque is a different species from Delonix regia — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.162.81.187 (talk) 07:28, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
