I thought it would be worthwhile to include the text of the English translation of the Declaration. However, while the Latin original is obviously in the public domain, I believe that the commonly encountered English version -- there are dozens of copies on the web -- dates to only 1970, and is still under copyright. I am not sure that this is the case, and will continue to investigate, but for now I'm leaving the text out just to be on the safe side. -- PaulDrye


Hmmmm, anyone here speak Latin well enough to give us a crack at translating what Derek uploaded on the main page? That would neatly circumvent the copyright problem I mentioned o-these-many-months-ago, up above. I never was able to find an English translation that was explicitly in the public domain. -- Paul Drye


I know Latin, own a Latin-English dictionary, and will -- eventually -- make a new translation, unless someone else does it first (hint, hint). -- Derek Ross
