Nationality[edit]

Seidler self-identifies as British rather than American-British (my bolding):

  • "But there was a caveat. He would do this only if I received written permission from the Queen Mother. Write to Her Majesty? That's when my American friends finally recognised my Britannic origins. An American writer would have thought: 'Who needs the Queen Mum?!?' But being a Brit I dutifully wrote, and waited."
  • "This letter from Clarence House, and my subsequent reaction, is what convinced my American friends that I'm both British and dotty. Wait? Who in America waits for anything, especially an old lady? But when the Queen Mother asks an Englishman to wait, he waits."

Both quotes from [1]. 86.142.104.222 (talk) 09:47, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(i) Those quotes are surely compatible with self-identification as "British-American", or "American of British/English origin". (ii) But I think the rule on self-identification of nationality is not like religion, insofar as it's not something you can just self-identify. You either have an American passport or you don't. i.e. If x has American citizenship, then x is American. Obviously we don't know yet. 82.26.0.138 (talk) 01:45, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Found a ref - he has dual British and American citizenship [2], so have changed the lead to "British-American". 86.142.104.222 (talk) 08:56, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And bloody XLINkBOt has reverted all my edits because I ahd inlcuded a YouTube link. fair enough, take out the Youtube but leave the good edits. I don't know how to revert as the bot has stamped all over my manual effort to revert his edits and then take out the Youtube link. 86.142.104.222 (talk) 09:33, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Early adult life?[edit]

It says he went to Hollywood and started writing aged 40. What did he do after graduating and before going to Hollywood? I think this would be interesting to know? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.174.108.74 (talk) 19:29, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
