Unfinished Works section

The section here on Unfinished Works is simply unnecessary. This is supposed to be an article on David Lynch for an encyclopedia; an in depth section on what he has not finished is simply not significant enough to warrant inclusion. (Midnightblueowl (talk) 20:03, 28 December 2009 (UTC))

I think "Untitled animated short, 1969 or 1970: Though David doesn't remember what the film itself was about, he distinctly recalls that he was paid to produce a short film and the negatives came back from the lab messed up." sums up that section! Unless the unfinished/unreleased films were of note (and can be sourced, of course - similar to some of Orson Welles' work), then it's not needed. Good work on cleaning up the article too! Lugnuts (talk) 20:08, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, and I plan to delete this section - it's simply far too unencyclopedic! (Midnightblueowl (talk) 15:48, 3 January 2010 (UTC))

I notice that some of the removed material is sourced to the Breskin book. Is there an objection to including this is some form?  Skomorokh  16:00, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

No,of course not, but it would be better to include it directly in the Biography section. (Midnightblueowl (talk) 18:09, 3 January 2010 (UTC))

Style magazine

Here's a 2013 article/interview in Style mag which is a potential source for this article. Cheers!--KeithbobTalk 16:16, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Citation Format

Hi all, I added a citation for the Urban Dictionary definition of "lynchian." The format seems to be off, because in other citations the URL isn't displayed in the popup. Can anyone here help me figure out what is wrong?,Wil (talk) 16:35, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi Wil, you had added quotation marks to the URL, which was making it show up as a bare URL. It's fixed now. [1] Also, no need to add quotation marks around the article title if you're using a template; the template adds those. Best, SlimVirgin (talk) 16:49, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Urban Dictionary is not a reliable source as anyone can edit it to add whatever they like (sounds familar?) Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 18:02, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Good point. Would this be a better source: http://www.thecityofabsurdity.com/papers/wallace6.html ? Or maybe Wiktionary (but that would have the same problem, it seems)? ,Wil (talk) 18:24, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Wiktionary would have the same problem. The thecityofabsurdity.com ref is also a problem. From the disclaimer on their homepage ("These pages are my personal tribute to David Lynch."), the site does not seem to be a reliable source. - SummerPhD (talk) 19:07, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
I'm not finding anything quick that would pass WP:RS. I'll drop a note on the WP:ACTOR talkpage to see if anyone has anything. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 19:24, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Google Books seems to have quite a few results using the term "Lynchian". This, for example. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 19:32, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Search through journals, I ran across a few casual usages in works specifically about Lynch, but nothing that gives or implies a specific definition. True "coinage" of a term would, in my book, mean usage where the author is using it as a term to describe an unrelated topic, similar to the way the word "Freudian" crops up in writings that do not even mention Freud. It's one thing to have a work about Thomas Jefferson refer to just about anything tied to Jefferson as "Jeffersonian": civility, erudition, style, etc. It is another thing all together if an article about the current administration were to refer to "Jeffersonian diplomacy". The first is a convenient shorthand, the second is essentially stating "Jefferson's diplomacy is so widely recognized that I'm sure you'll know what I mean". - SummerPhD (talk) 19:41, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Update of description of Lynch's website

It appears that davidlynch.com has changed dramatically. It is now being used exclusively to promote his latest LP. Should we change it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wllm (talkcontribs) 23:32, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Not a lynch coinage

Lynch did not coin the pseudonym "Allan Smithee." If there are no objections, I'd like to delete that claim. 206.130.136.162 (talk) 12:53, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

The article doesn't say that he coined "Allan Smithee"; it states that he coined "Judas Booth" as an alternative. GRAPPLE X 18:03, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.

The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.

Please help us determine consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:50, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

This seems wrong:

I have a problem with this sentence. Beyond the fact that it is original research, just off the top of my head I can think of three or four other male characters with multi-character roles in his work, such as Mike Gerard/The One-Armed Man in Twin Peaks. Without any sourcing I'd be skeptical of this claim.

>>By contrast, Lynch rarely creates multi-character roles for his male actors, with the possible only exception in his 2017 Twin Peaks revival where Kyle MacLachlan plays FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, Killer BOB as Cooper's Doppelgänger and Douglas "Dougie" Jones.

Quote about Trump added in June 2018

Making no comment about whether or not the quote as a whole should be in this article in the context it is, this addition gives the impression this was a continuous statement by Lynch when the RS cited (and others I found) insinuate that this statement was given in two pieces. The second part of the quotation added by the IP (who is at 5 reverts), should not be added continuously with the first... nor should it be added to the article at all in my opinion, as the first part is by far the most notable/establishes the thought. Photos

Lynch in 2007
The previous photo (left) and the current photo (right).

Gentlecollapse6 changed the infobox photo a year ago (see right for comparison). I don't think size matters much when you can resize an image with |upright=, and I think that the previous photo is better because it is 10 years more recent and has better lighting. I am also concerned that File:David Lynch (1990).jpg and File:David Lynch at the 1990 Emmy Awards.jpg are derivative photos and therefore under copyright. wumbolo ^^^ 13:21, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

I've changed it as per WP:BRD. wumbolo ^^^ 09:11, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
