Weasel Words[edit]

In the section Career with the Sierra Club, a weasel word is used in the second-to-last sentence of the first paragraph. I have copied the sentence below and italicized the weasel words. Brower published two new titles a year in the series, but they began to lose money for the organization after 1964, though many claim they were the primary cause of the Club's extraordinary growth and rise to national prominence. Nobel Peace Prize[edit]

He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times.

Being nominated for the Peace Prize is an honor, but it is not official and not necessarily prestigious. Any national legislator or about a third of the university professors in the world can make a nomination, and there have been as many as 140 some years. Nominators are requested to keep their nominations secret, so it's only those wishing publicity who make announcements. Altogether, I see no reason to keep it. No offense to the subject, this is a general Nobel Peace Prize "nominees" issue. -Willmcw 03:39, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)

Mountaineering[edit]

I believe that Brower's achievements as a mountaineer deserve more attention in this article, and I propose to expand that part of the article. Dubious quotations[edit]

Since when could Dixy Lee Ray possibly be considered a usable source for quotations from David Brower? If there is no other source for these quotes, they need to be marked aa apocryphal if not deleted entirely.

I absolutely agree. Dixy Lee Ray cannot possibly be regarded as a reliable source for such a controversial alleged quotation. Given her politics, etc. she probably considered David Brower "Public Enemy No.1" -- so using her as a source is on a par with using a member of the White Citizens Council as the source for a controversial statement attributed to Martin Luther King. I made a serious effort to find another, reliable source for the quotation in question; however, I'm afraid that everything I checked out online cited the very same source -- Dixy Lee Ray. (Btw, this quote is a huge favorite among right-wing Conspiracy Theorists.) I am removing that passage forthwith. Cgingold (talk) 00:57, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
