Fair use rationale for Image:CUSD.jpg[edit]

Image:CUSD.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

What other information should be added to this page[edit]

  • Board and Superintendent names and information
  • Front Office picture

There is nothing in this article that demonstrates its notability. Find notable information and cite it. It is little more than a directory at this point and adding the above does little to help this. - ForgottenManC (talk) 17:15, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Individual schools[edit]

From the references provided, one school may be considered even marginally notable: Joaquin Miller Middle School (San Jose, California), for 2 teachers winning a prestigious math award. the rest i turned into redirects. for anyone upset, please research outcomes for AFD's for middle and elementary schools on WP. (i will leave the work on this to the reader as an exercise in education). ProfessorMercurywoodrose (talk) 05:53, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree entirely - with the exception that I would also merge the remaining school on the grounds that notability can't be inherited from the staff. A wee section in the school district article would be fine for me in this case. Blue Square Thing (talk) 07:25, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That does make sense, i would not oppose just mentioning the 2 people in this article.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 01:37, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Transportation[edit]

This section on the current and former transportation fleet has been repeatedly removed as being unsourced, initially by user:NotBobbyBrackins. It has now been sourced to someone's person web site, but that is not a reliable source, and does nothing to address the fact that this information does not warrant inclusion. Please discuss it before restoring again. Meters (talk) 00:41, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

CUSD Recall Effort[edit]

Please restore:

The Recall of Lori Cunningham at CUSD was significantly covered in the CUSD community.

It was on the front page of the San Jose Mercury News, one of the largest publications in the country: https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/02/23/covid-data-show-california-far-behind-in-reopening-schools/ - there were multiple protests. The largest school reopening protest in the South Bay was from this.

It was covered in numerous places, a sampling here: https://www.recallcusdboard.org/media/

60+ parents called into the Feb 25th CUSD Board Mtg, resulting in the longest board mtg in CUSD history

It was the first recall in Santa Clara County as it related to reopening on par in size and scope with the SF School Board Recall which has also drawn national attention. It got extra attention because of the recent CRT controversy at CUSD + it is one of the top performing districts in the US.

It was widely covered as it was also during a time CUSD was trying to pass a Parcel tax which also failed for the second time in 2 years. Many believe it failed because of their slow reopening process. https://cupertinotoday.com/2021/05/06/cusd-measure-a-parcel-tax-fails/

Ballotpedia, a neutral group, has included this as one of CUSD's major events (https://ballotpedia.org/Cupertino_Union_School_District,_California), the last major event being in 2016. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.223.117.23 (talkcontribs) 21:53, July 8, 2021 (UTC) Meters (talk) 22:03, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  4. BRD does not mean post to the talk page and then restore contested material yet again. Please read WP:EW.Meters (talk) 22:22, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Why should a special interest group's starting of a petition to recall someone from the board be included? They are already on record as saying that they will attempt to recall others as soon as they can. At this point this is nothing but sour grapes by a special interest group. If the petition reaches the required number of signatures it will go on the next ballot for voting. If it then passes it should be mentioned. Even if it just makes the ballot but fails to pass it might be worth mentioning, but I 'm not seeing it now. Meters (talk) 22:27, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Cupertino is a small city, 70K. This event was one of the most divisive events in CUSD history. The recall itself had support from some city leaders who attended the protests. It is believed to be the reason Measure A failed, a district that is in the bottom 5% of funding in CA in one of the most affluent areas in CA (and it failed for the second time in 15 months, never before in CUSD history). It resulted in the largest school reopening protest in the South Bay and only protest in recent CUSD history/memory. It also resulted in the longest Board mtg in CUSD history. The division created by this event is significant and still remains a major topic of discussion at CUSD. The recall effort irrespective of whether they succeed was covered nationally and locally. They started a title wave of recalls in other neighboring districts like Los Gatos, Sunnyvale, Saratoga etc. This was a significant event. Maybe the post is lacking all of the additional context. 73.223.117.23) (talk) 15:35, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The size of Cupertino is irrelevant. Where is you evidence for any of this? Weaslel wording such as "It is believed to be ..." have no place in Wikipedia. We don't speculate. And unsourced claims such as "the largest school reopening protest in the South Bay", "only protest in recent CUSD history/memory", "started a title wave of recalls in other neighboring districts", "the longest Board meeting in CUSD history" etc don't hold much water.
You are writing a section called "Recall of CUSD Board Trustee Lorien Cunningham" about the attempted recall of one particular board member, and now you are trying to shoehorn in material that does not mention her. If you want to write a section that concerns protests about the reopening (or lack thereof) of the schools rather than the Cunningham petition then propose your section here and we'll see what other editors have to say about it. Meters (talk) 22:49, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm writing material that is showing the significance of this event as it related to school reopening and the division it caused in Cupertino and the repercussions of such. You are arguing that this wasn't a signficant event but I'm showing it was. 73.223.117.23) (talk) 15:35, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Here are facts, it was the only protest for school reopening in the South Bay that got to the cover of the San Jose Mercury. The protest was attended by 2 CUSD School Board Members. There have not been any other protests in CUSD's history since at least 2011. The title wave of recalls, see here: https://padailypost.com/2021/05/08/parents-in-four-south-bay-school-districts-want-to-recall-school-board-members-over-school-closings/ - CUSD was first. Longest board meeting in CUSD history, here is the link: https://go.boarddocs.com/ca/cusdk8/Board.nsf/vpublic?open - Feb 25th was the longest since they started publishing the meeting recordings online. 73.223.117.23) (talk) 16:03, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So, you are now attempting to write a section about the protests in general rather than the recall effort? Make up your mind.
And you are still making unsourced claims about what you call facts. How do we know that it is "the only protest for school reopening in the South Bay that got to the cover of the San Jose Mercury"? How do we know that "There have not been any other protests in CUSD's history since at least 2011"? Your supposed sources are not sources for your claims. Four cases does not sound like a "tidal wave" to me. You should read WP:PUFFERY, and the source does not say that the Cupertino case lead to the others, just that it was the first of four. The supposed source for this being the longest board meeting in CUSB history does not say anything of the sort. It's a top level board site that does not show the length of any meetings. If you have a source that shows the length of meetings then give it to us. If you have a reliable source that explicitly states that this was the longest meeting then give it to us. Meters (talk) 23:35, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You seem very invested in this since you have made no other edits. Do you have some connection to the school board or the group pushing for the recall? Meters (talk) 23:38, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
RE: cover of the Mercury, I subscribe to the Mercury but you are correct, I can't prove this w/o reviewing all of them. RE: other protests since 2011, I've lived in this neighborhood since 2011. There have been protests for school closures and affirmative action (that were memorable, others were too tiny to even recall) but yes, I don't have a way to prove this. RE: the tidal wave, I again can't prove this as this was said on Nextdoor by those that were organizing. They were all connected. RE: board mtg lengths, this I can prove, go to that website, click each meeting and click view video and you can see the length. I checked them all myself. RE: vested interest, no, I'm retired and an avid Nextdoor user for my community. 73.223.117.23) (talk) 16:57, 8 July 2021 (PDT)
