Notability[edit]

Cristina's music epitomises the No Wave genre established by ZE Records in New York circa 1980, which was itself a crucial link between punk music, post-punk, and what was to become Garage music. She herself was an important and influential player in this - as well as being Michael Zilkha's wife, her recordings involved key figures such as August Darnell. Clearly notable in my view. Sources[edit]

The sources listed don't support much of what's written in this article. I'm adding back the "unsourced" tag to give someone time to find sources that do. Valrith 21:07, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please specify what you consider to be "unsourced". All the information in the article is sourced - otherwise I wouldn't have written it, d'oh - and if there are particular points that you require to be specified I will happily retrace my steps to do so. Fair use rationale for Image:ZeCristina.jpg[edit]

Image:ZeCristina.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 03:11, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Original recordings[edit]

There are a couple of points here. Firstly, John Cale's participation. The original version of Disco Clone (it's different to the Kevin Kline one)definitely does claim him as producer. Cat# ZE001, no performer listed, Cale listed as producer. Limited edition of 1500. 12" only. French / English versions.

Secondly the version of 'Is That All There Is" never appeared - or was intended to,I don't think - on her full LP, but rather as a 12". My UK copy is Cat#12WIP6560. B-side Jungle Love. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Luffmantipodean (talkcontribs) 11:47, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's very interesting. I don't doubt you're right, but would be useful if we had verifiable sources for the info. I'll correct the article anyway. Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:06, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reported death[edit]

Any claims that she has died must be supported by an independent, reliable, published source. Unexplained edits, or edits claiming unpublished personal knowledge, will be removed. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:45, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

PS: It seems some people may be confusing her with Christina Grimmie. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:06, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2020 update[edit]

There are posts from friends on social media stating that she died today from the COVID-19 virus. We will wait for this to be confirmed in reliable sources before publishing as fact. Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:33, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 3 April 2020[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. Opposition has expressed that the current title is already the WP:COMMONAME. (closed by non-admin page mover) Jerm (talk) 22:39, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cristina (singer)Cristina Monet-Palaci – Request using her full name, as "Cristina" is common and there are other singers with the same given name. Indefensible (talk) 17:22, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. She was only known as Cristina Monet-Palaci for the first twenty years or so of her life, and then only to her family and friends. For the remaining forty or so years - during and after her marriage - she was known as Cristina Monet or Cristina Monet Zilkha - per multiple sources - and, again, only to her family and contacts. To the wider world, she was known by the mononym Cristina, which so far as I'm aware was not a mononym used by any other singer. Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:10, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Ghmyrtle and per WP:COMMONNAME. Performers are known to the public via their stage names and this performer's stage name has been "Cristina". The main title header of her entry does require a parenthetical qualifier, but so do the main headers for such superstars as Madonna (entertainer) {not Madonna Ciccone} or Prince (musician) {not Prince Rogers Nelson}. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 03:01, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Roman Spinner and Ghmyrtle, COMMONNAME. This is what she was known as. —DIYeditor (talk) 06:32, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per COMMONNAME. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 03:31, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support in light of recent death (March 31, 2020) -- have "Cristina (singer)" redirect to fuller, final name Cristina Monet Palaci (hyphenated or not) Aboudaqn (talk) 19:26, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The sources you've added (which are good) refer to her as Cristina Monet Zilkha. So, why support a move to a name she didn't use after the age of 20? Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:14, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Keep reading the citations; they are mixed, but clearly she reverted to her maiden name after her divorce. Aboudaqn (talk) 20:24, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, she didn't. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:25, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support to avoid confusion with other singers whose stage name is Cristina. There is at least another one, see Krystyna Konarska (in French). Vincent Lefèvre (talk) 22:08, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Ghmyrtle and COMMONNAME. She never used her full name during her career. Miss HollyJ (talk) 01:17, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lady Gaga image[edit]

... is entirely inappropriate for this article. The fact that a critic mentioned Cristina and Gaga in the same sentence is no justification. Please read MOS:IMAGES. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:24, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The same applies to the image of the "Disco Clone" single. The policy is only to include such images where they illustrate the subject of the article - that is, the record itself, not articles about the artist. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:27, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
See Template:Non-free album cover - The image should be used "solely to illustrate the audio recording in question... [It] should only be used for covers of audio recording releases...." It will be removed in due course, but it's best if you do it yourself having read the guidance. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:43, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The editor concerned seems unwilling to discuss, unfortunately. Adding these diffs for future reference: [1] and [2]. Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:25, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New wave or no wave?[edit]

The lede says that Cristina was known for her new wave recordings, but then the infobox cites her primary genre as no wave. Considering no wave emerged as a rejection of commercial new wave music, this seems to be quite controversial. Can we sort out whether Cristina should be mentioned as a new wave or no wave artist? { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 22:11, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No-wave, although some would argue that "no wave" was in fact a sub-genre of "new wave" whatever was said at the time, so in my view it's not important. Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:24, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
