Untitled[edit]

If I am not mistaken, the skeleton of a chief was found at this mound. He was an astounding 7 feet 6 inches long, if my memory serves me right.

Correct. I edited the articled to read "very large" skeleton instead of "large" skeleton. Technically I could use the term giant, but that probably would be considered not scholarly by some.--75.175.67.155 (talk) 23:30, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Construction[edit]

@SimpsonDG: You added the construction date for the mound as "probably around 250-150 BC" in your big additions made here. Than you for your additions. Unfortunately, there is no citation that goes to any of these references, so there is no easy way to verify where you got the date. Can you illuminate?

I just visited the site, which is why I am confused by the dates. The 1963 plaque from the state of WV says "about A.D. 1". image of plaque I found online. A more recent exhibit, which I believe was created after your edit, says "the Kanawha Valley Mounds were probably built in the Woodland period, after 500 B.C." (The exhibit is part of the Midland Trail Nation Scenic Byway. A relevant page is here and a another photo of an exhibit is here). Also there is this WV encyclopedia entry: [1]. Do you think your source is more accurate than the information used by the Midland Trail project?

@David Tornheim: see WP:ERA - in any case it should be BC or BCE. It's BC at the moment so any change would have to be made according to the guideline. I'd prefer BCE. Doug Weller talk 17:57, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Kanawha Valley Mounds[edit]

Please note that I also created a Kanawha Valley Mounds which I redirected here. Based on the exhibit at the Criel Mound, I'm confident the subject is sufficiently notable, but I don't have the time to write an article that has enough substance. I believe everything we have on the Kanawha Valley Mounds is here in this article, so I just used a redict. However, I would support a full article for Kanawha Valley Mounds if there is material that goes beyond what is in this article that we would want to add. I might create it, but not today.
