Irish Canadian?[edit]

Untitled[edit]

Someone recently added this article to the category "Irish Canadians." Is this accurate -- is Sharpe part Irish? I realize that many Newfoundlanders have Irish ancestry, but the term "Irish Canadian" implies (to me at least) a far more recent link to Ireland. (Similarly, we wouldn't call someone from Ontario whose ancestors came from Scotland two centuries ago a "Scottish Canadian.") And is there even any source for the assertion that Sharpe's ancestry is Irish? Despite the popular misconception, just about as many Newfoundlanders came from South-west England as from Ireland. --WillNL 13:19, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually other articles related had disputed or possible origin categories. Someone put Zack Werner a Jewish Canadian (as also Jake Gold ,which I've deleted. Someone put Keith Macpherson a Scotish Canadian. Eva was put a Peruvian Canadian, Melissa O'Neill - .Eurasian, Billy Kiepart a German Canadian, Theresa Sokyrka - Urkranian orthodox.
The best one - Ben Mulroney put as Irish and Serbian
I've have some questions for several of them. I've deleted those from Mulroney, Werner and Gold. I haven't change those of the contestants yet
If you have Any doubts on a origin category for Sharpe, you can delete it --JForget 02:32, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting...I wonder if those tags were all added by the same person? The editor who added the Irish-Canadian tag to this article (or, actually, his sockpuppet) seems to have a history of making controversial racial/ethnic claims on Wikipedia, judging by his talk page. Anyway, I've deleted the tag. Whoever added it -- please feel free to add it back if you can cite a source. --WillNL 11:22, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WillNL, I've also though the same as your first comment - I rather put it if they were born in that country or was born from parents from that country's although I have realized that Mulroney's mother has a Russian-like name, but that doesn't make sense to put Mulroney as a Serbian Canadian. Although, on the flip side I would keep Eva in the Peruvian category since her father was born in Peru. I wouldn't put categories for heritages reasons such as Irish for the Newfoundlanders. Like I said it's the jugement of you folks to keep it or not. Although I'm quite surprise that he/she haven't put Rex Goudie as Irish (as he was from Newfoundland and maybe surprise he/she haven't put Eurasians as Rex is dating Melissa O'Neill that he/she put the Eurasians tag in O'Neill's article.

Although I've found this courtesy of http://www.realitynewsonline.com/cgi-bin/ae.pl?mode=4&article=article6417.art&page=1

From Canadian Idol episode of September 4, the same featuring Tony Bennett.

But even then I don't think it will required an Irish tag

Fair use rationale for Image:CraigSharpe.jpg[edit]

Image:CraigSharpe.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
